Bear Down today being June 17/2017, The Lords blessing! and biggest Boar to date, from back foot to front foot 7ft on the dot, or back foot to nose 6ft 6inches. Saw him around 120 yards and disappeared, stalked in to about 80 yards and I gained sight of him again, one shot from my 8x57 ( 8MM mauser ) with 170gr speer sp @ 2790 fps is all it took. Dropped on the spot and stayed there. Bullet impacted his neck and exited. My hunt lasted approx. 45 minutes. Great performance from the good ole Husqvarna 8x57!!

Congratulations! Hope it was a great trip all round.

A family friend was visiting at my fathers farm a few years back and said he didn't eat bear any more due to risk of tuberculosis. Is this a real threat or just a local roomer?

The risk is not likely Tuberculosis, but rather Trichinosis, a danger in all wild pork and bear. Only requires proper cooking, and the threat is neutralized completely.
Domestic Pork is inspected and cleared for consumption. D.

Congrats, bagged my first black bear this year a colourphase chocolate six footer with the almighty 8mm mauser too!
Mines a 1941 Husqvarna,my oldest hunting rifle but I love it.
