Which is a good round for 3 gun considering targets out to 500 yds? I know that different guns like different ammo but which ammo consistently performs well? I have heard of American Eagle black - is there only one type of black? Thanks.

How big is the target at 500m ?

I've used PMC Greentip 62gr up too 400m and everything was on the Fig11 center of mass-ish

PMC .223 / Remington UMC .223 rang a 12" gong at 300yards consistently in my M&P 15. Never seen a need to run expensive stuff for my tactical rifles, the precision rifle fires toonies though.

I can hit a 12" gong at 200m off hand (standing) using remington UMC freedom bucket ammo like 8/10. if on a bench, its basically a laser out to 300.

3 gun mostly uses steel at long range and showing up with green tip ammo is a good way to get dq'd or fined

Its good for shooting paper :p I just replace it with the 62gr FMJ version for steel target. We use IVI out to 600m out of our "beat up" C7/C8 and its a 62gr bullet

On a side note, you cant tell the difference between PMC greentip and other 5.56 on a swinging AR500 gong at 100m. Might be different on a fixed&angled plate though

Some MDs will have inspections setup at the match and dq shooters regardless of whether or not the ammo was actually used. It's always a good idea to check with the MD first, before the shooting starts

I've seen green tip ammo dimple Ar 500 at 100m....i suspect it does depend on the angle of the steel
