Mosin 91/30 w/cracked stock

Hey guys,

I got a Mosin 91/30 given to me, haven't shot it yet, but the barrel and bolt are in otherwise VG condition. However, my main concern is with the stock, which has a crack in it. The wood doesn't move at all when I try to manipulate it, but I'm just worried about enough explosive pressure making it worse and something crappy happening. I've got some (sub-par but adequate) pics to document what I mean. Would this be an issue? Also, if it is, where can I pick up another stock for this bad boy?

Did somebody glue the action into the stock? See if it will come out .If it does ,I have a stock you can have ...........you pay the shipping.Harold

Don't throw out the old stock as you will need the handgard ring retaining pins .Save it and get back to me.....Harold

That cracked stock looks like an excellent candidate for a sporter project...Kinda like what I'm looking to do at the moment. I'd be interested in that stock if you're just going to toss it.

Your stock is on its way and should arrive in 4 days time so they say.Now the retaining band spring on your old stock needs to be driven out as it's a pin on a leaf spring so to speak.I enclosed a finishing nail [use blunt end on the metal] and drift the spring out. Look closely on the opposite side of the stock from the spring and you will see a tiny hole.....this is where the nail is inserted.I will send you a PM with the details........Harold

Awesome I know the hole you mean, thanks for including the nail as I have a severe lack of them at my apartment right now...
