Nea 102

I question how the RCMP and the Feds will ultimately respond to allowing us a Non Restricted AR10 type rifle.

Its nice it was approved. However will this help or trigger the hammer to drop on us?

The "AR" letters will put panic into the leftards like no other letters or words can.

"Magazine Capacity"

Proprietary parts in all the places I wanted to swap stuff out for standard stuff!
And with that, sadly, I'm out :( Just not what I'm looking for.
Will keep my eyes on NEA to see if they ever release any limited runs etc in the future. Would be sweet to see a light weight profile barrel and an A2 style furniture set maybe.
Good on NEA bringing this to our sad market and not gouging us out on the NR tax. Cool to see. Big win and well played on the legal aspect.

It is too bad that the NEA lower will not accept original AI uppers. Owners of original CA 12-3 AR-10s would have had an option giving them a rifle that could be used - just as 12-3 M-14 rifles can have their parts installed on new production receivers.

If the 102 barrel extension could be purchased, new barrels could be made easily enough.

The lower will accept most AR10 uppers (ie. Knights, DPMS etc). I assume it won't accept the original to keep it non-restricted? Maybe that was one of the concessions...

Read #9 under Rifle as a whole in post 807. Pretty clear the lower will not accept AR-10 uppers.
Where are you getting your info from?

With it being chambered in 7.62 x 51, is this going to be a problem for us wanting to hunt with 308 Win, most things I read seem to point in that direction :*(

Too bad it's not a 308 Chamber.
Now that I switched to lapua for the bolter, got a bunch of FC and WIN brass shoulder bumped/headspaced to 1.628''
If the 102 are in the 1.640''+, my brass destined for another rifle than my bolter will take quite a stretch

Yep questionnaire does say 7.62x51
I am also sure it would be fine, but my brass has seen a few cycles.
Factory brass shot out of an AR10, full length resized, shot and 2thou shoulder bumped 3-4 times out of a bolter.
Now using that brass will give it a long stretch once again in it's life.

I know it's nitpicking and probably won't stop me from buying 102.
It's just too bad I have 200+ brass pieces I don't wish to go through a stretch again

Full length size every time in a semi auto and don't worry about the chamber, it will be fine with either 308 or 7.62 brass.
If you have issues with your handloads chambering you may need to work that brass even harder with a small base die.
I would also start with the Hornady service rifle load data with a 308 semi and keep the projectiles under 180gr. Semi and bolt are totally different animals when you're handloading, going to heavy projectiles like you would in a bolt action will cause the action to cycle harder than it needs to.
Don't worry too much about your brass either, you'll probably only get half the loadings you would in a bolt action just because the action is a lot harder on the brass. I would save the Lapua brass for the bolt gun and use some cheaper brass in the semi auto.
