I'm a fan of trying not to wash my outer layers, but I pulled out my coat today and it smells something like a bear that's been rolling in his own sh*t. I usually try and dry it out every day and stay away from the campfire, but it's time.

Do you guys have any tips or tricks? I was thinking of getting some unscented laundry soap and washing it right now and let it sit until the fall.

I only wash my hunting gear in cold water with lots of baking soda, no detergents or anything like that. Just baking soda. Clothes come out clean and odor free although its important not to let them sit in the machine after the cycle ends. I dry them by hanging outdoors and then store in garbage bags til needed.

Depends on the material. Wool, Goretex, DWR, etc... I usually use some kind of sportwash specific to what I'm washing.

I'll wash it normally in the machine, but will hang it up to dry. Never in the dryer. Fabreze for my boots.

I wash my hunting clothing with Borax when needed.

In the wash with everything else. Too a deer I stink, my under layers stink, my boots stink, cigarettes stink etc, im not going to be fooling any critters with a natural smelling outer layer. Keep the wind in your face and the freezer full.

I have some detergent stuff that is scent free or whatever and use it. But more importantly, I get plants and trees (bark/leaves) from the area I'm gonna be hunting at if possible 1 month ahead, and shred the items up in a large garbage bag and toss my clothes in. I give it a flip every few days when I think of it.

Only wash them when they get full of blood, then put them in a regular wash and hang them in the garage with the rest of my gear. I don't worry about my clothes smelling like garage, you can never fool a deer or coyote's nose, so I play the wind.

With all my regular clothes.

If you do the same for drying, now your goretex doesn't breathe because of fabric softener sheets.
The "whiteners" in regular detergent make you glow like a lamp for those animals that can see that frequency. You will be "whiter than white".
