So.... I finally fell off my wallet and bought a new .22.............
-
Marlin 60SS. :dancingbanana:

WSS sports had them on for $399.00 (regular price). The clerk showed me a 10/22 in similar finish, a Mossberg :)rolleyes:) and a Savage. My buddies gave me a hard time over the tube feed, but I find I am always able to top up my tube without really affecting anything.

I like the fibre optic sight, the action open on last round, the overall finish and the "medium" barrel if you will.

First round didn't feed ( Remington Cyclones) but it ate all of them after that. I never stripped the gun for a cleaning, just a quick barrel/action cleaning.

It was a bit more than I was looking to spend but I was looking for "that" rifle that would wow me.... Happy times right now, and I have access to a pile (like 3500 acres) of gopher infested land..... ;)

The 60ss is one of those classic rimfires that will no doubt serve you well. I like the tube feed its easier on the fingers and way faster to load. Its one of those rifles i wish i would have bought years ago!

Well first of all..I want to tell you that if you need any help with the gophers, I know a guy who takes shooting them very seriously. Same guy might be flying out again with his nephew next spring. :)

Congrats on the Marlin! My only semi IS a Marlin 795, because of my failed attempts to love tube-mag-fed rimfires. lol However, they are a more handsome rifle than the 795s and I'm confident yours will serve you very well. When the wallet recovers a tiny bit, check-out the MCARBO spring kits. Very easy to install, and you'll love your Marlin even more after that small amount of TLC.

Photos of the rifle, and of dead gophers beside it ALWAYS welcome! :)

My Model 60 is blued with the synthetic stock, It is really a great gun, I got mine 7 or more years back, and it came with a cheap Chinese made 4x scope. I took her to the range a couple of days after purchase along with 1000+ rounds of ammo, aerosol gun scrubber, rod, patches, brushes, and a bottle of RemOil, to break her in. Yeah it's a hardship, but someone has to do it. :)

After a couple, to three, hours enjoying myself, shoot a tube then clean and lube with a patch every 50 rounds, the misfires stopped, except for the faulty ammo caused ones, I'd brought my CZ 455 along to see if misfires were gun or ammo. The trigger really started to show improvement after about 300 rounds.

My Marlin Model 60 out shoots my Ruger 10/22, it out performs my friends 10/22s.. I have bettered the semiauto rimfires that my friends have, Remington, Ruger, Winchester, and Mossberg. And when looking at new purchase price, the Marlin does it at less cost. Just one thing, if you get the 20mm Chinese scope, replace it with something with a 1 inch tube.

Had one. Great rifle. Now have the Stainless 795 which is the same gun but mag fed. Careful when taking apart and putting back together you don't kink the bolt spring. Also don't tighten the trigger guard screw too much as the trigger guard has a tendency to break. Way better and more accurate than a 1022 which I also have. Good choice. Hard to find in Stainless. DIP kit does wonders for the trigger and you can also order an aluminum trigger guard.

I still beat myself on the head for selling my 2 Marlin 60s 5 years ago. Both were almost as accurate as my Savage Mk2F and I don't recall ever having any kind of FTF or FTE. These and my Anschutz 1416 are the only guns I really regret selling.

Great choice. Big fan of the micro grove rifling. My Marlin is my truck/backup gun... Can't tell you how many times I have gone into the bush or to the range and have forgotten all my magazines. The model 60 comes to the rescue everytime.

Gave it a proper break down and cleaning last night..... very grungy in there..... now she shines.... bolt cycles very smoothly, looks clean.... I am going to have to put this .22 as my safe favorite right now...

I think you should go zero the scope on some gophers. :)
