I'm currently awaiting a 16 inch barrel (mid length gas, matte stainless finish) for an upper build, and I can honestly say I have no idea what I want to do for a handguard. Style, length, anything. I'm really all over the place on this one. So I figured I'd ask the good people of CGN to help inspire me. Thoughts?

Why not a free-float KeyMod or M-LOK hand guard? Lots of places to attach things, lighter and smoother than Picatinny rails.

Right now I'm thinking about a 13.5-15 inch keymod or M-lok, but I really dig picatinny rails. Hence why I'm so conflicted. I'm also debating whether or not it's worth it to spend the money on the high end stuff, or just buy a cheapie.

Really happy with my Aero MLOK rail, has a Picatinny piece out front at 12 for the front sight. You do need to buy the proprietary barrel nut as well though. Depending on length you're looking at $150-$200 IIRC.

Key Mod is pretty much on the way out, retailers down south are seeing M-LOK out selling Key Mod at a rate of 3 to 1 and USSOCOM recently selected M-LOK over Key Mod is the last nail for the system.
When it comes to handrail it is like picking out a purse, it is all about your personal taste.

Although I have no beef with M-lok. The firearms industry is literally full of products that we were told were on their way out. .I can't think of a handgun caliber that hasn't been declared dead, lol.

I was looking at some of their rails on Saskatoon gun works, but I was confused as they all look like their designed specifically to mate to their fancy upper. Any insight?

Aero BAR nut adapter and Aero M4E1 Quantum Handguard (M-lok or Keymod) will work with any Milspec upper. If you want something else they offer just send an email, they answer pretty quick normally.

Thanks for the info. I ended up on Aero's actual site and then read about the BAR nut. I'd be able to get the handguard and nut to my door for a shade north of $200. I'll certainly have to consider it.

M-lok is stronger and WAY easier to machine. Keymod is flimsy and complicated to machine and you often end up with out of spec slots that don't retain stuff properly.

Makes you wonder why M-Lok handguards tend to cost more than their keymod counterparts.

You and me both! I'm thinking of getting a full on quad rail for my Varmint. They are just soooo pretty. Also, picatinny isn't going anywhere anytime soon, unlike maybe KeyMod and M-Lok when the next thing comes out.

I just got this chinesium ebay special MLOK 15" handguard installed on my S&W M&P the other day. The build quality surprised the hell out of me. I figured for 65 bucks all in, it wouldn't be a huge loss if it were cheap junk. But I'm super happy with it! 15" handguard, 16" barrel. I opted to get the steel nut with it.
