Any idea on the value of an average run of the mill No.4 MK1 Longbranch 1942?
Was offered one to buy from a estate but really have no clue what an average price is.
I remember them being like 25 bucks in a barrel at the local hardware when I was a kid.

25 bucks!?
I got ripped!
I paid $100 for my 1950 one.

Of course that was about 20 years ago...
Probably $500 now. Maybe more?

Depends on the condition of the wood, whether or not it's sporterized, condition of the bore, all matching, etc.

I paid $600 for a 1943 LB with full wood and a decent bore last year (non-matching). If it's sportered, probably in the $200-250 range if all parts are matching.

Almost any Longbranch in full dress is worth $500. Nice matching ones sell for good money. The "good old days" are long gone.

Take a look on EE to get a general idea of what a LongBranch is worth. EE has them at around $800 on the low end. Here in Ontario the local gun stores, when they have one, they have them priced form $900 to $1100. I was recently at a store outside of Toronto when one came in. It was a dog pile of mismatched numbers and the wood was at lease 3 different colours but it sold within a day or two for $1050.

Hate to break it to you but if you want full military, gone are the days of sub $600 Enfield's unless you know someone who has a stash and really don't care what they sell for. US websites are out dated and really doesn't apply to Canada because even if you can find a deal, you can not just ship it across the boarder. And I wonder if the people speculating on the price of a LB actually own a LB because if I were to sell mine today (which I have no plans to) I would be in the $750 range.

I sold my pristine 1950 LB for $1000. just last year. Good unmolested ones (if you can find them) go for $850-$1100. here in southern Ontario. Bear in mind, the local connection (Long Branch was on the lake shore here) adds to the value. Out west or down east the values seem to change significantly.

Geez, what are No 5s selling for then?

My No.5 was purchased from the "barrel" at eatons in the 80's for $75. I inherited it a few years ago. It is all matching including magazine. I would never sell it; but imagine $600-$800 is its value today.

I paid $880 two years ago for my '43 Longbranch. And I feel like I got a bargain. All matching, good wood, great bore.

Food for thought

There is no comparison for a no5 and a LB no4. Most no5s were post war production, and have a bit of a black eye for their "wandering zero". As well, they were never in service with Canada, nor made in any real quantity by Canada (perhaps a few prototypes). I would suggest that a no5 would run from $350 for a lesser example to perhaps a high of $550.

I think LawrenceN's estimates are quite close to today's values for factory/unmolested examples. British FTR, desporterized, or put-togethers of mis-matched parts are worth less, although unscrupulous sellers and un-knowing buyers will result in prices the same or similar to the unmolested examples.

A few months back I sold a "mint" as /new jungle carbine with a "new" bayonet for $1500.00.Condition is everything.
Also sold a pristine/factory new 1943 LB for $2000.00

And that's what I'm talking about!!! Ultimately, any sale item is worth what a buyer is willing to spend. A Lee Enfield sniper rifle went at a local auction for $10,000.!!!!!!!!!

Any of the mint examples are a whole other ballgame. They are difficult enough to find that they are worth whatever a dedicated/motivated buyer has to pay. Just that mint jungle carbine bayonet would be worth what a lesser jungle carbine would be worth.

10K for a British sniper would be a bit high, but certainly in the ballpark for a Canadian sniper. The 90L no4mk1*(T) rifles with their accessories will easily fetch from 11K to 15 K these days up here in Canada.

I just found a Longbranch 1942 with a pristine 2 groove barrel, sling, bayonet and canvas gun boot for $900. I had to bite my lip, because I was used to buying them for like $350 once apon a time. I did not want to see to go to someone else. Matching and in 95 %condition.

I could probally sell it for that no problem.
