I was going to grab a matched Aero Upper to continue my build, abd the guy behind the counter was talking up the new faux-monolithic "Enhanced" uppers.

Is there any real noticeable difference? I did some research and all I'm hearing is that it's easier to install and it restricts your hand guard choices significantly.

Thoughts and experience with them? I figure if I'm not barrel swapping every week it won't make a difference in my life.

I'll preface my statement by saying I've no personal experience with them, but I'm currently deciding on build direction for an upper I'm working on so I've been looking into them. Having said that, "Noticeable difference"? Probably not. It seems like a sound theory though. If my understanding is correct even though it's faux-monolithic, because the handguard isn't bolted to the barrel nut it's a truly "free floated" design which makes it somewhat unique. I'm seriously considering giving it a shot on my build just because what I'm doing is going to be an oddball anyways so I might as well go full retard.

They're technically stronger than free-float handguards attached to the barrel nut since the load bearing surface is larger and integral to the body of the upper, as opposed to a thin-walled thread. Whether or not that is of any value to you is entirely up to you. If you're hanging a bunch of #### off the end of your 15" long handguard and then proceeding to use it as a makeshift bat, the added strength may be of interest.

This is the thought process that's applied to every HK product.

Interesting you mention HK, because they mount the HK416 handguard on the barrel nut, like almost everyone else.

I know they do, but keep in mind they also don't make a direct impingement AR because of their "reliability issues" My comment was more about HK's tendency to, and I say this as someone who loves their products, reinvent wheels for negligible benefit. In general it's a common trait of German manufacturers across industry.

Bunch of different handguards work with them. You aren't that limited and they are very easy to install. Like 8 screws easy

LOL, reliability issues that don't exist, I might add.
