Recently I noticed that on EE that many Vortex optics have been for sale. Has there been issues with them lately? I have their Viper HD 8x42 binoculars and find them fantastic.

I don't think there's any newer, out of ordinary problems. Lots of folks are upgrading to this year's "PST Gen 2" model, or they're getting really serious about long range and jumping to the Razor HD Gen 2. From a rifle perspective, anyways.

Also reference the "Is money that tight right now thread?". A model 94 for $425 that hasn't sold. A Weatherby 308 for $500 hasn't moved.

Retail has been slow too. With the Oil Sands future uncertain with the possibility of crippling carbon taxes, and the job market still shaky, people are saving for a rainy day rather than splurging on things they don't really need IMHO.

I never gave Vortex a chance until a buddy bought an AMG and I read the AMG review by Frank Galli. Had a chance to look through his and it blew me away! Compared it side by side with an S&B and for the life of me my eyes couldn't tell which was better. I much preferred the AMG reticle though. There's actually one on the EE right now and I can assure you it's not because of any problems with it.

I've said it before and I will say so again, the Razor II HD can run with the best: I have two Razor II HD, a NF ATACR F1 and two S+B PMii and had a Kahles 624i. While some may have an edge in glass and the SKMR3 is the best reticle of any, the Razor II is not outclassed by any of these other scopes.

I have two vortex scopes right now, and I'm quite satisfied with them. Excellent quality for the price, and peerless warranty. They're not Nightforce, sure, but they also don't cost thousands of dollars. :)

Honestly I run Vortex on most of my rifles now because my Leupolds started giving me problems. Dust in the scope, wouldn't hold zero, and a couple other minor problems. Customer service when I sent them in for repairs was spotty at best so I figured I'd try something else. That was on Riflemans all the way up to VX-3's.

I dropped a Zeiss conquest on my deer rifle which is stupid clear and bright for low light hunting. Then I went to all Vortex Razor optics for Binos, spotting scopes, and my LR coyote rifle runs a new Razor AMG. I've never run into a problem with any of my Vortex stuff that wasn't my fault (I dropped my binos off my truck and buggered up the focus knob once). Customer service with Vortex is outstanding not only for warranty work, but also any questions I've had to ask them about anything.
