I have been offered a BRNO 581 as a trade, but I don't really know anything about them.

This particular one has a bit of pitting on the outside of the receiver, but apparently functions just fine.

It has only one magazine. I'm assuming these mags are hard to come buy and expensive these days?

What else is there to know about these rifles? I'm pretty sure Im going to take it, just looking for more info before I commit....

Thanks!

Well, personally they are one of my favorite "vintage" semi-auto 22lr's. They are very well made, easy to take down and usually very accurate, that's the good. On the other side of the coin, every one I've shot has had a fairly heavy(although crisp) trigger with not much you can do about it, as you said, magazines are scarce and expensive when you do find them and I've come across a couple with broken firing pins. All that said, they are still one of my favorites. Let us know how it turns out.

They take the same mags as the CZ511 but that still makes them basically unobtainium. I have a couple of extra mags and wouldn't part with them for $100. They are a marvel to take down but as mentioned the triggers are heavy and I wouldn't mess with them as parts are basically non-existent. One of mine is very fussy ammo wise but is extremely accurate. Points and handles like a dream and oozes quality. On my never sell list.

Wouldn't part with 'em for $100? Damn, so they ARE pretty rare... Was really hoping to get a 2nd mag for it, but might have to just roll with one for the time being...

Looks like someone in the UK is trying to make more of them: https://riflemags.co.uk/blog/updated-new-cz-511-and-cz-581-magazine-project/ Anyone know what import/export laws are like for this sorta thing?

As far as I know there is no problem ordering gun parts from the UK. It's just getting parts out of the good ole USA that is the problem because Canada is on the their ITAR list seeing as we are known to harbour and pay off the occasional terrorist. That project has been on the go for a few years so who knows if it will ever come to fruition. At one time we could get Brno parts from a fellow in California but he is out of business.

Love my brno, but as many have stated the mags are impossible to get right now. i do have a (solid) prototype i 3d printed to check for release and retention, but have not started to design it to be functional yet, as i havent looked at the legality of 3d printing a rifle magazine, rimfire or centerfire. so this project stays buried.
