I am looking for a red dot sight for my keltec sub 2000 and my new AR15 I know that you get what you pay for but I also know that for a recreational user a lot of the high end sights might be overkill and with the "fun budget" not being what I might like I am always looking for the best value for dollars spent as well as good price. My question is for those of you who have first hand experience with budget level red dots. For those who are just going to say "buy a $600 aimpoint" don't bother I already know its a better sight than any of the budget models I also know that I won't be spending $600 on a sight right now.

I like the cmore I have on my ar15, no idea what it costs new but it was cheaper than a vortex sparc on the ee.
I do have 2 bushnell trs25s that I like so far.

To be honest, my Holosuns look as crisp and clear as my Aimpoints plus the Holosuns have some neat features (built in protective caps with kill flash) donut reticle, quick detach mounts out of the box, Ummmm

For 250-350$ you really can't beat a holosun

I have used (am using) Vortex SPARC AR's on the X95 and the CX4 Storm and a Bushnell TRS-25 on my CORE15 AR. Both models have been running perfectly so far. No complaints. I do like the dial knobs on the Bushnell more that the rubber buttons of the Vortex though.

I just picked up a Holosun 403a for $180, high and low mounts included. It has a few nice features like 50,000 hr battery life, auto shut off after 8hrs and auto on( move the gun and the sight turns on), just waiting for the M&P 15-22 that it's going on to arrive, so I can't say how I like it yet, but they get great reviews

Primary Arms(Holosun) are great Red Dots for the money.
I have the PA MD-ADS and it has been great.
Adjustable intensity and the battery last for up to 50,000hrs.

I have a couple of Holosuns. If you're just sitting around, comparing glass, it's not as nice as the higher end stuff. Mounted and shooting, you won't notice. I have one with the EOTech-esque circle, and, to be honest, I don't use it a whole lot. I haven't managed to kill either one yet, but one is on a shorty slug shotgun, so I'll see how that holds up. At this point, I don't see moving up to an Aimpoint as a justifiable improvement, but I'll probably move onto LPVO to get a little more when shooting at distance.

I agree with the Primary Arms RDS. I bought one off the EE for $200, sighted it in quickly on a shotgun and shot a 3G match with it. Illumination was perfect, light and compact, easy on/off, held zero and never fell off my shotgun, even with slugs. I was a skeptic initially but now, I'm sold on it.

My price point is anything between $100-$300 with preference going to high value for money spent so if the $300 sight is 20% better than the $200 sight I would just buy the $200 sight but if you actually get a bigger improvement by spending a few more dollars in ok with that. Money is tight so ideally I would find something for $150 that would work just fine. A guy has to dream lol

Watch the EE. Holosuns can be had in the $175-$200. Once you start to creep into the $300 range, I'd recommend saving and buying a used Aimpoint Pro or Eotech 512 for $400-$450.

In order of preference of the budget optics I own:

Fastfire III
Sparc
TRS-25

All are adequate optics, but I wouldn't stake my life on any of them. I haven't tried a Holosun or SparcII yet...

I have the Redfield Counterstrike Tactical Red Dot Site 1x30mm 4 MOA ($265 at Prophet River) on my AR. Decent Red/Green dot. I can consistently hit 100 & 200 yard 12" metal plates from the bench and offhand using both the red dot & green dot. It comes with a laser but if you have a front sight you wont be able to use it. If it's a straight flat top then no issues.

Bushnell TRS 25, $100 on Amazon.
3 MOA dot, feels rugged and has withstood many rounds of 30.06 without loosing zero.
