Overpressure issue

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to get in contact with savage. It sucks to buy something then have to ship it to Ontario on my own dime and not get to use it for probably a couple months... but such is life. Would much rather be able to exchange it at cabelas :(

Blowing primers right out, not good, not safe, send it in.

It does really suck that you'll be stuck without the rifle for many months, I agree that Savage should allow Cabelas to return this for full refund, it's b.s.

Cabela's won't exchange it?? It's their policy -

"New firearms: All sales are FINAL. If a firearm is defective, we will exchange it within 30 days of purchase. After 30 days, contact the manufacturer or an authorized service centre for warranty determination and/or repair. Please call 1-800-265-6245 prior to mailing a firearm to our return centre. Abuse, incorrect use or subjecting the firearm to extreme conditions may invalidate the warranty."

Unfortunately do due the nature of my work (I rotate 3 weeks on 3 weeks off up north) I didn't get a chance to shoot this rifle until almost 6 weeks after purchase :(

Minor update: savage referred me to a place in Ontario and they said to send it there or if I get the headspace checked elsewhere and it's ok it could be the ammo and they'd send me ejector parts for free if required. So the rifle is with someone local being looked at. Hopefully know in the next couple days.

So my gunsmith got back to me. Headspace is perfect.

Cause seems like it must be the ammo. Winchester powermax. Be weary shooting this ammo if you have a primer blow STOP SHOOTING. I will be contacting Winchester on this issue. My ejector and ejector spring are being replaced. Anymore questions let me know or post here!

I would test it with another brand first just to be safe and check after each shot headspace isn't the only cause of over preasure. Sure there is always the odd blue pill slips through but it's usually the odd one or two per box not half the box and if it is a bad batch Winchester might throw some presents your way to keep you quite given how this problem would likely attract lawyers like flys round smelly stuff south of the border.
