Don't know why I didn't upgrade my 10/22 before

I've been shooting my semi-custom ruger 10/22 for quite a few years now. I had removed the factory barrel and stock and replaced them with a carbon fiber barrel and thumbhole stock. I loved the gun and it shot great but there was still something missing.

This past week I ordered a KIDD single stage trigger at 2.5 pounds along with a bolt buffer. I can't believe the difference the trigger made! I went from a 6 pound trigger with take up and over travel to a clean break 2.5# trigger pull and it's phenomenal. The auto bolt release in the new trigger is also a must have for any 10/22. I just can't believe it took me this long to upgrade. Now I just need to find a new bolt and charging handle.

Sounds like a happy outcome! In my experience, 10/22s need a little help...more a question of whether or not you get a kick out of the upgrade-process (=making a gun shoot better by dumping $ into it) or, would prefer a rifle that doesn't need it. With time, I've come to realize (like you) that most triggers DO need help~at least in the class of guns I can afford to buy. My next rifle might be an Anschutz and if so, it might be the first factory trigger in a few years that I actually stick with!

Have you had a chance to shoot it? Any accuracy difference? Guessing there has to be if the trigger pull is less than 1/2 of what it was!

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I'm likely making a trip to the range this weekend.

Not sure if you have gophers in your area...but if I lived in a gopher zone, the only paper targets that I'd shoot are those I need to zero my scope. After that~gopher armageddon. :)

Haha ya we do have tons this year. I've shot a few thousand shells earlier this year and that's kinda what made me want a lighter trigger. Unfortunately the grass has grown up now that they are hard to see.

I know what you mean I finally swapped my stock trigger to the BX and its just over 2lbs.I can't believe i,ve been shooting it this way for 30 plus years.

I see Kidd has the single stage trigger on sale at $199.95 USD. Adjustable from 1.5 to 5 lbs. I bought their 2 stage trigger several years ago and have been real happy with it so may order a single stage for one of my general purpose shooting 10/22's.

Kidd sells a trigger kit for $105.00 usd and a set of springs for $7.50 usd. I would like to purchase these for my 10/22
Fab sports is Kidds Canadian dealer. They told me they are not getting in anything when our dollar is so bad.

What ammo to use?
I hear the Winchester copper plated 40 grain ammo is pretty accurate in many 10/22s.

Anybody try the timney trigger for the 10/22?
They have one in our lgs that retails for over $275 cdn.
The timneys we have had in other guns over the years have been fantastic.

Dlask has the Kidd trigger kit, and lots of other stuff for the 10/22. They also make their own stuff. I have one of their bolts and it's very nicely done.

yup they are good triggers, pretty much the same as a Kidd 1 stage.
only trigger ive shot that is better than the Timney is the Kidd 2 stage.
worth the money for sure!

if your gonna start mucking around and doing VQ upgrades then you should go all in and get the HP action kit.
doing just the hammer is kinda half ass'n it, dosnt address the sear break or over-travel or reset or any of that.

This is my first year with my build from scratch 10/22. Shoot quite a few more rounds at gophers with this then my bolt action 17hmr thats for sure. Still like the 17 better on the gophers though, as you can really tell theyve been shot with the 17. Not so much sometimes with the 22. :)

Fun lil rifle though.

The KIDD trigger pack performed amazingly in the field last night. Absolutely no creep and a super light pull compared to my factory trigger. All aluminum construction is much nicer than the polymer trigger packs the new rugers come with as well. The trigger itself has a little different angle on it and its perfect for my thumbhole silhouette stock.

I also installed a polymer bolt buffer at the same time and I'm actually quite impressed with how much it quieted the rifle. Seems to have less recoil too, if that's even possible considering its a 22LR. Now I'm gonna want to order a new KIDD bolt and charging handle and DLASK receiver to make it a full custom.

Just doing the hammer still made a night/day difference on my ~30 year old carbine. Can't believe I sat on that part for a year before installing it.

If it were a match rifle, I might go the extra on it. Right now I feel that I can shoot it to its capability

I generally don't like 2 stage triggers.
That's too long a process for me.
I like a crisp clean single stage pull followed by a bang.
Spent too long hunting those very fast pa deer as a young girl.
You oftentimes don't have time for the trigger to break once before the deer 'flags' and vanishes.

I'd look at a Kidd receiver and Dlask bolt - the Kidd receiver can be rear lugged, the Dlask bolt is extremely similar to the Kidd.
