semi-auto .22 that is not a 10/22

I have had my 597 for almost 10 years now and always run the cheapest bulk ammo through it with almost no issues with the factory 10 round mag. The aftermarket 30 rounders are a different story. My best friend bought his 597 just before I did and has had an equally good experience.

It is my most reliable .22 rifle, and I have lots more expensive ones to compare it to.It doesn't deserve the "Jammomatic" label , especially when a new factory extractor is just a 7 dollars fix.Very few of them ever gave problems anyways.The old first gen. plastic mags gave some feeding issues and Remington will trade them in for the new ones.I have 7 factory mags and they all function great.
 
My vote would be the Marlin 795. VERY inexpensive, cheap mags, accurate, last shot bolt hold-open, action release lever, adult-sized charging handle, etc. Sights are crappy, mag release is primitive (mags seem to be held by friction mostly) but the gun is a superb value. IF you just have to spend a little more money, about $60 will get you an MCARBO spring kit to lighten-up/improve the trigger. An aftermarket stock from Boyd's is an option too if you want laminate (+weight).

I'm not a big fan of the Nut-N-Fancy YouTube channel, but take a look at his extensive video review of the Marlin 795.

The military replicas/Norinco semis/Cooey 64~none of these will ever be in my collection. Just don't care for them. That STG weighs a ton too! Wall-hanger-cool-factor? 10/10. Shooting one off-hand? Not for me. The Ruger SR-22 is a very cool looking rifle but over-priced and at it's core...a 10/22. I promised myself I'd never buy another one of those. lol
 
You say no 10-22 but may I ask why you don't want one ? It's highly customizable to any desire you might want being it looking tacticool or shooting like a laser.... I love mine and would see no reason to sell it.

I second that. I have a bunch of variations of those models. Hold the trigger back after firing a shot and the bolt stays open.
 
If you are getting your Rpal, and want something tactical, why not a S&W M&P 15-22, doesn't get any more tactical than an AR in .22 platform. Yes it is restricted, so only a range toy, but it meets all of your criteria. Also gives you a perfect trainer if you intend to get an AR in the future, I just picked one up for $435 from FOC,,,,smokin deal for a rifle that many have called the best .22 semi auto ever made, worth thinking about anyway
 
Stg-44 is awesome, the only thing that would make it absolutely perfect would be metal mags. I would pay extra money for those!

You mean steel mags? It would increase the total price quite substantially which is already not so low. Also steel (even blued/painted) tends to rust. Furthermore, have you ever seen 25 rd steel mags for other 22LR rifles? I have not. I guess there is a reason for that.
 
I agree with many here about getting a .22 that works best for you, as the situation changes and no one gun does it all.

Bought a 10/22 for my son, then the Libtards had their Pony Soldiers make a call on the magazines, which just made me buy a GSG, thanks RCMP for giving me reason to buy more guns.


If I do not want to .22 fun factor I just use my .22 bolt action Dad gave me in the 70's.


So each to their own, I can say the STG 44 does need much in parts compared to what I spent on my son's old 10/22. Did I mention I bought a tri mag coupler and went from 25 rounds to 30 rounds, and lots of 10 round BC's as well. Yup the 10/22 mag law sure worked eh? :)
