Was the biggest mistake I've ever made in my life. Id like to replace the one I sold but I don't have lots of cash to blow to get another. Which is why I was thinking about getting a Whitworth Safari Express in .375 H&H. I see the book value for these are $200 - $500 depending on condition. Are these rifles any good?
 
My brother has been shooting one for several years. They're a good rifle and easily a $800 rifle in good shape, maybe more if condition is better. You could also look at the Zastava which is essentially the same rifle. Some people complain that they're a bit rough out of the box but owners also report that a couple of hours of cycling the action while sitting in front of the TV smooths them right out. At $795 from TradeEx they're a much gentler way to ease back into the 375 market.

And this time, smarten up!
 
There is also the Weatherby Vanguard avenue as well.
Not sure what a used one might go for let alone a new one in Canadian $ with our Peso so low and the 1/4 point BoC interest rate increase will affect the value of anything new or used .
What was the one you had before and what where they worth back then?

As mentioned it's the same barreled action as the Zastava LK M70. I have a 375 H&H magnum - it's a fullstock 20" barrel carbine (which I got re-barreled to 416 Remington Magnum). Features a Mauser action and a decent adjustable trigger. Fine accuracy. Beautifully blued. An excellent value because new these sell for well under a grand.

What isn't to like about these rifles?

I got approximately 400rds worth of brass and bullets from gun shows I've collected up this passed year even after selling the .375 just because I fully intended to get back into one. I was thinking if I wait until next year, I could afford a brand new CZ 550 Safari but I rarely purchase new firearms so id most likely get a used one. I like that FS .375 though so maybe I'll take a closer looks at a Zastava. If they can be had for around $800 new, I wonder what they can be had for used.

That's my old .375 right there. Just now it has a scope and sling on it. Originally I thought it was a Voere and it was sold to me from a gun store as a Voere but I saw a real Voere the other week and they're indeed completely different guns. Not even the action is the same.

Its out of my budget for anything over $500 as of now. I just paid $1500 for the immigration processing fee for my wife so If I were to wait a year a brand new CZ 550 Safari would be no issue to obtain. I just got a think to myself. Do I want a gun now or can I wait? I was also thinking the possibility of trading some of my .375 reloading supplies for a Whitworth .375 but that that would only be attractive to someone who owns multiple .375 H&H rifles and wouldn't mind letting one go for brass and bullets.
 
Was out blasting away with my stainless 7x64 Zastava today...that or the Vanguard would be the 2 budget options that stand out. Vanguards are smooth, great fit and finish, Zastava is a bit rougher but a nice enough Mauser action.

Biggest Mistake?!?! Well played Sir, well played!! I'll see you a couple ex-wives and a few trashy bondes .... ;) Cannot go wrong with the CZ, my .375 is my go to rig!!

...glad you've come to your senses, man, what were you thinking!?

...had to sell my first .375 H&H Ruger...went through the DT's...cold sweat...delirious...wound up a year later with a pair of Ruger 375 Tropicals...when I left the prairie and came back to the bush I sold them, had my old 700 rebarreled to a 375 stainless and bought a classic (new $450) that I cut down for close bush work...never EVER go anywhere serious without them...they aren't much but they are accurate and do their jobs very well...

Building one from a 700 action is an alright idea. Sounds like a fun idea actually. I even have a 700 stripped action as well as two stripped Brno actions. Or I could sell those actions for cheap to someone and use that money towards getting a .375H&H. Something to ponder.
