The new Remington 700 "Ultimate" (cough) Sheep titanium rifle reminded me of how much I'd love to own a 700 Ti in .308.

Wish those clowns would start offering a Ti 700 again. Missing the boat or what ?

Please post pics & descriptions of your 700 Ti rig. Would love to see em.

Thanks !

I had about 10 over the years in various cartridges. The one I most recently had and traded was a 260 I had dropped into a wildcat model 7 pattern stock and added a BDL bottom metal. It was the only one I had that shot better floated than with a pressure point which is why I kept it as long as I did. I believe it weighed in at 4lbs 12/13oz bare. I have picture somewhere here....

I have also built out multiple model 7's in a similar way and can hit 5lbs +/- 2oz depending on what work you do. It should be noted that the m7 can be done for ALOT less money.

I had 4 different original Ti's back when they were actually available.

One in particular now resides on the west coast. It was originally a 7-08 but I rebarreled it to 7-08 Ackley Imp with a 23" PacNor and put it into a Wildcat stock with BDL bottom metal. This by the way does not add any weight that can be detected with most scales.

With a 2.5-8X Leupold in Talley LW's it was 6lbs 1 ounce...and yes, it's on my list of rifles I should have kept...:)

I've got an Alaskan ti in 7 mag in a McMillan. Great gun, very accurate.
The whole titanium thing is a bit gimmicky. As double gun stated, any model 700 or model 7 can be slabbed, light barrel installed and dropped into a light stock.
My vintage lightweight favourites are the walnut blued 700 mountain rifles.

I will say that the titaniums seem to be build to tighter tolerances than their steel counterparts. I read somewhere that the titanium action bodies were machined by smith and wesson for Remington. Whether or not it's true I can't say, I just found it interesting.

Interesting re Smith and Wesson.
I have no way of measuring the tolerances but the custom shop guns seem to be tighter as well.

I bought one in 260 Rem., couldn't make it shoot with acceptable accuracy.
After messing with it for a couple years I had it re- barrelled to 270/08 and it is a tackdriver.
Thank - you Bill Leeper.

I have one was a 260, shot 140sst's into around 3/4inch. Nice light little rifle, but the stock doesn't fit me very well. Sure nice to pack though. Its off getting a carbon fiber barrel (260ai), new stock, ptg firing pin, wyatt mag box. It will gain a good half pound but I am ok with that.

I had one the Rembo BDL'd for me in 7mm SAUM. It was tough at first to find a good load, eventually E-tips worked out. The first year I had it I shot a nice buck, the second year something weird happened and all I could do is miss, including a nice 4x4 about 75 yards away off the hood of my truck.

It now lives in the NWT somewhere.

There was a Gen 2 ?

What were the differences ?

gen 1, the 700 Titanium, blind magazine, 260 rem, 7-08, 308, 270, 30-06.

gen 2, 700 Alaskan Titanium, floorplate, heavier contour fluted barrels, heavier stock, could get them in 300wsm and 300wm, 7mm mag as well. Think they dropped the 260 for this model. Didn't last long. Price was $500-800 more than a gen1 too

The one mentioned in my post:

I wish that I had bought the used Gen 1 Ti in 270 that was on the rack at Chilcotin Guns back in the day. It would have fit nicely in between my 25-06 and 7x57.
