Hi, Does anyone know here I can score some 577 Minie bullets for a .58 Parker Hale Musketoon. I have round ball. Many thanks Trav

Track of the Wolf in the US carries some, but I am not sure if they ship to Canada. I have a reproduction Enfield Musketoon as well and until I start casting my own Minie balls, I plan to shoot .45 Cal pistol bullets with sabots. I have not shot my Musketoon yet though, so I cannot confirm whether the .45 bullets and sabots work well or not. If you are interested, I got the sabots in question at Precision Rifle Bullets.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wondering how that'll work out, but applaud your enterprise.

I shoot mine with a 535gr Lyman Minié bullet over 60gr of FFg - goes nicely into the 25m pistol black at 50m.

Thanks Guys, thats all good info. I have a Lee mould coming but would prefer to buy them ready made. Will have to check the sabot idea also. Regards Trav

Marstar has .58 cal Maxi balls on their website. They are 570 grains, not sure about the actual diameter though as it is not specified. The website product code is FMB-050 and the price is $25 for 50. No idea what shipping would cost...

Minie balls and maxi balls are not the same thing. Minie balls have a hollow base that expands. Maxie balls are solid based.

When casting minis make sure you have ample lead around as proper fill out of the mold is kind of luck of the draw, I find over half of the ones I cast go back into the pot. I find there is no real remedy to solve this, plus use a scale to weight cast minis as some appear alright but have odd voids in the cast. One other point the lee mini drops out a little small around .575 for most part, and gives terrible accuracy, I paper patch mine with 2 layers of 11# tracer paper up to .580 works like a charm.

Lee single cavity mold #575-500-M, diameter .575, weight 500gr
Use only pure lead, can be purchased from a roofing supply company.
Unlike the Lyman 575213 these bullets can be used right from the mold and do not require sizing, if you use pure lead.
I will not give my load data for reasons of safety and unknown rifle condition.
