Anyway. If a hi point is all that you can afford and you want to get shooting right now. Do it. They are reliable. Super cheap. They're ugly to me and I won't own one because honestly the look. But hey there are ppl out there that think Honda makes a real truck and look at how many smart cars are on the road. Dare to be different if you want to. Or save up a bit more. Either way the price of the gun soon becomes irrelevant and lost in ammo costs

The beauty of the hi-point, is that the ammo costs are offset by never having to spend money on a decent tack hammer again. Or door stops. Or cutting boards. Horse shoes...

In my experience (I own one) The Hi-Point .45 is ugly and heavy, but it is also reliable and accurate and cheap (to buy, not cheap to feed). It's also a fun gun.
I also own a Canik TP9SA and it looks awesome, feels great in-hand, is reliable, accurate and very affordable.
The Canik is about twice the price of a Hi-Point, but if you only have $300, I think the Hi-Point will work for you. If you can save a bit more money, get a Canik or a used Glock.
9mm is cheaper than .40 and .45 in my experience as well.

I have a JHP in .45. Yes Heavy, but not overly so.
accurate, with the best feeling trigger i have shot in a long while.
And I am a range officer at a shooting range. The JHP is not too finicky about what you feed it, will take +p ammo. and the accuracy of the fixed barrel is superior to a lot of the short recoil designs.
check them out. Guns and Ammo and I think Shooting Times did a review of the Hipoints at one time.

My sisters ex and I were shooting his hi point 45 when I was on vacation in Maine. It was bad, really bad. It was clunky & really uncomfortable to shoot, but only for a short time, because the mag release broke during the first few minutes.
So he brought out his 9mm Hi Point, and it broke down as well. They should change the name to Low Point!
I owned an sti spartan, not top of the line but a good quality, well functioning firearm. I have read people like their shooters arms and rock island armory pistols as well. I would also gladly go with a norinco, just not a hi point! Ever.

I have a Hi-Point Carbine in 45. It's been a great gun! I had a problem with a spring falling out after I did a complete breakdown and re-assembly. I like to see how things work. Anyway, I must have not installed the spring correctly and it fell out at the range the next time I had it out. Prior to this it had about 700 rounds through it without a single problem.
Hi-Points customer service was top notch! They very quickly sent out the part I needed and sent a couple extras just in case I decided to "play" with the rifle again. Since then it's seen another 500 rounds and my Hi-Point factory mags springs showed signs of failure. The springs were getting weak and the last round wasn't feeding properly. I'd be willing to bet Hi-Point would have sent new springs for free too but I already had replacement springs from Brownells for my Norinco 1911 mags.
The Hi-Point is back to reliable again.
If you can get my the look, and the snooty shooters at your range, they're not a bad buy. For a pistol I'd still recommend a Norinco first though.

Hmmm, interesting I am going to have to look into the HP carbine now lol ! Do they use Glock mags and if I remember right, they are restricted?
Ok thanks. I was just looking at them on SFRC's site and for some reason the 9mm and 45 version come with 5rd mag's, what's the deal with that chit?

I handled a hi point pistol one time at a gun shop . Not a chance , felt like a cordless drill .

I'm not new to handguns, and I bought one of the last brand new M-57s available for under $240.00 with two mags, and 1750 rounds of surplus ammo. I'm over half way through the ammo, and am finally getting on the paper. Over 700 rounds through it and not one single malfunction. Easy to strip and clean; well made and beautifully finished. I've seen some new ones recently with two mags selling for $329.00
Too much fun to shoot; mine is a keeper! I would buy the M-57 ahead of the T-33 because of the longer grip and one extra shell in the mag. The bang the jump, and the fire-ball have earned it the name "Serbian Hand-Cannon" at my club. Everyone needs one just for s***s and giggles.
