When people ask to recommend an optic

And I answer ACOG, because I own 7 of them

Agreed. I've owned a few but I think the TA33 was my favourite--super light, great eye relief, and still 3x magnification. I wish I still had that one.

I do find myself missing my acog from time to time, but then I peer through my specter and all that nonsense vanishes.
Joking aside, there's always been something about the acog.

I always thought guns themselves were the expensive part, but experience has taught me now it the optics and the ammo that cost the most.

As for value, it depends on how and what you use your rifle for. If you demand your tools to be rugged, then the piece of mind coming from buying something of high quality is a reasonable investment. Not to say that aimpoint and some vortex optics aren't, but I will admit my old acog just came with that "ready for anything" confidence.

TA33 eye relief is very forgiving. The spec quoted by Trijicon is very understated. I can shoot it in some very awkward positions and the reticle is always usable. The TA33 is the most "battle friendly" magnified optic. PERIOD.

For the OP.

Mike, how to acogs work with people who have damaged eyes such as myself? For example when looking through a scope with my right eye (shooting eye) I always need to adjust the focus greatly in order to see the reticle properly, crisp and detailed. Acogs have no such ocular adjustment so how would that work?

No local dealers within driving distance sell these things otherwise I would just walk in and see for myself :p

Since this seems to be the ACOG Appreciation Thread, I would like to ask a question or two...

I am very intrigued by the ACOG the ruggedness of it, the look of it, the pedigree, basically the whole package.

I am relatively new to the AR game... I have had a Colt M4 (LE6 what ever) for over a year and have been shooting it with the Iron Sights. I have just put together a short barreled one as well (10.5").

I am thinking I want an ACOG on the 16" M4 and some sort of red dot or a 1.5x ACOG on the Short one...

Does anyone have any feedback on the Trijicon RMR or the reflex?

I am just learning about Optics... I mostly shoot pistol but have been bitten HARD by the AR-15.

Thanks!!
