Some of those I have tried definitely do have short eye relief, which I also dislike. The TA11 (and TA33, which I tried but have never owned) definitely do not - eye relief is awesome on both. I'm actually not a fan of other models I've looked at. I'm not sure about the reticle being out of focus, as I've never noticed that myself. Can I ask which models you owned?

So this thread was a bad (or good?) influence on me. I saw a red chevron TA33 come up in the EE and couldn't resist getting it for my FS2000. It's the same scope I had on my first FS2000 and I find it works well well on the rifle.

I have only ever had one ACOG. Not sure what model it is but from pictures on the internet it appears to be a TA31F 4x32 ACOG with Dual Illuminated Chevron .223 Ballistic Reticle and TA51 Flattop Mount. One of the older ones that still has the bible verses engraved on the side.
Best combat optic I have ever used/owned. Well worth the $300 I paid for it.

I picked up a T33 recently. I'd have to agree that it's my favorite by far.

I have used a spectre, never owned one. They are a great sight, with some good features over the acog, but they are not twice as good. For the same money the choice of one spectre or two acogs, i would take two acogs all day long.
The new ones still have the bible verse embossed on the housing. I believe it was only the US mil contract ACOGs that had them removed. My TR25 1-8, the TR24 1-4 I had, the RMR, The RX01 reflex, all of my TA33's, my TA44, and my MRO all have bible verse references.
I've heard great things about the TA33. Sounds to be just what I'm looking for. Unfortunately I can't afford one until I sell my FDE TA01ECOS. Eye relief is too short for me with the TA01, damn glasses.

It's short on the TA31, the TA33 and TA11 are much better (These are the only ones I've owned). They are a nice compact, rugged optic, but the glass quality and optical properties leave much to be desired (including small eye boxes for all models, very short eye relief on others), with the availability of rugged, lightweight and crystal clear 1-4 and 1-6 optics for comparable prices, I find it hard to justify owning one anymore.
