Just a heads up for those interested.
The Northern Alberta Institute of technology is offering courses in gunsmithing.
MACH110, MACH105, GNSM105, GNSM107, GNSM110
First course starts in Sept, last course ends June 2
The MACH110 and MACH105 are the only prerequisites you need if you have no machining background.
The only other thing you need is a valid PAL.
In the course you will need to buy a barrel blank and a rem 700 short action if you don't have any. NAIT provides a recomended sourse if you need.
Cartridges reamers supplied are 223, 243, 6mm, 308, and I think 6.6x284.
Holly smokes, When I did a couple of the SAIT courses (2004-5 I think it was) they were $400 each and supplied everything except a new barrel to butcher. They were basically a beginner/hobby Machinist course that we cut gun parts at...very worth while at the time for me.
I think its great that this course is offered at NAIT, a young fellow from Wetaskiwin was telling me about it and has intentions to sign up when he completes grade 12. D.H.
