C8

I just have to know...what is the attraction of any used military firearm or uppers? I have seen first hand how these things get treated (over cleaned, abused, etc). I can only hope these are not operationally used examples. The carry handle uppers are classics, with the US M16A2 windage and elevation adjustable rear sight being the best one in my opinion.

What's the appeal? It's one of the rarest configurations on the civie market so that appeals to collectors. Others may want the same rifle they carried while they served.

As for abused and over cleaned? I don't mind some external abuse. It's mostly cosmetic. Parts are replaced as required so I have no issue or concern in using a surplus upper. Hell, a lot of people on this site put more rounds down the bore annually than the CF does. Does that mean I'm taking my chances by buying off the EE?

My C8 upper was pretty beat up, so it got the Cerakote treatment, thanks to Frank at BC Ceraokote......Upper and Lower are Sig Grey, rest is Graphite Black.....my pictures don't do it justice, the grey looks very nice in person.FullSizeRender (36).jpgFullSizeRender (38).jpgFullSizeRender (39).jpgFullSizeRender (40).jpgIMG_4678.jpg

Why? Armacoat could of re-anodized it for you. He does anodizing for most of the Canadian manufactures.

Why Not? I think the contrasting Grey and Black looks fantastic! Not everyone wants the "as issued" look. Tastes vary, and that contrasting Ceracoat is very tastefully done to say the least. No need to rain on someone else's parade, especially when they are justifiably proud of their possession. Kind of a d#ckhead thing to say IMO...

The anodizing on issued guns rarely match up either. Colours will vary from one batch to the next. Especially with our current fleet of C7 and C8 rifles who were refurbished to A1/A2/A3 variations while keeping the original lowers.

I took mine out to the range, it's accurate and already sighted in for the 50 line. The only issue I have is with my C8 upper being possessed, since half an hour into shooting it decided to go full auto for the rest of the time I was there. Seriously though, it's a Norinco CQ311 lower, I think the disconnector or disconnector spring is faulty because function testing shows nothing wrong with any of the parts on either the upper or lower until it's fired and thus shock is applied. Tried another shooter's bolt carrier assembly, still did it. Interestingly enough it wasn't a runaway gun, I could stop it whenever, luckily I have a LPK sitting around! :)

Not really worth noting, but both the other shooter's carrier and my own were full auto cut.

Hey! Hey! Be nice. I was just asking why.

I'm just an unfrozen caveman lawyer, but I think it may be unwise to broadcast that on a public forum that the prohib police have been known to visit.

How does the colour match up to the old grey Colt colour? I have to re-finish some old retro clones.

I think this Sig Grey is slightly different, than the old Colt colour, but that was the effect I was going for......I'll try and get some more pics posted next week.

I've taken another C8 upper to the range, it worked fine. There is a really special balance with the 14.5" C8, the smaller hand guard and overall length makes for a perfect SHTF weapon that can be easily stowedFullSizeRender (36).jpg

Certainly to each their own, but for arguments sake, one could consider these military surplus. As militaries in general are not releasing anything these days for surplus arms sales to civilians, one could consider these to be extremely rare and in the future, quite valuable.
I'd like to know how many were released and where they came from?

Mine has seen a fair amount of carry, but little internal wear, and a fair amount of carbon build up inside the flash hider on the crown, so I'm thinking they were probably not CF(?)
Of course I'm kicking myself for only purchasing one.

IMO it's akin to asking for help with a slam firing SKS, it's a weapon malfunction that cannot be manifested when manually function testing. Either way I'll be swapping out the trigger mech for a higher quality set that I have laying around, some people have suggested that it might be a light buffer, so I'll try a heavier one while I'm at it.

My guess would be that you're right and it's a faulty trigger mechanism. My fear would be that someone decides it's your lower and it joins the 80% AR lowers, ATI Omni Gen 1's and a few others in the prohib pile. There's been quite a bit of ####ery afoot as of late regarding AR lowers. Either way, good luck sorting it out.

Took my finalized C8 #1 Right 2017-07-23.jpgC8 #1 Left 2017-07-23.jpgC8 to the Range today. What a sweet rifle. Super smooth, mind you I have a JP buffer piston installed and an updgraded trigger for full disclosure Nice, light, accurate, no feed issues, it was a really joy to shoot. Video is my son getting some down range
