Hey guys, looking for some help. My cousin got into a money issue and asked me if I would be interested in his shotgun. It isn't one that I wanted myself but figured what the hell. Now I'm just trying to see what is out there for sights and barrels etc. But my Google foo sucks. My cousin doesn't care if I put new goodies on it as he will just pay me back for them. But the barrel is huge and at the moment I can only use 2 3/4 bird shot. He used it for skeet. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks.

What's the problem? Sounds like it is set up for wingshooting clays already. And it's unlikely a gun used for skeet has a "huge" barrel - how long is it?

If it is a sporting 12ga it probally has a 28" barrel and choke tubes, very nice wood and worth too much to start screwing with and adding goodies as you call them will just drop the value of this shotgun
If you want to modify an 1100 pick up an old one for a couple 100 bucks IMO and leave this one be
Cheers

It is the 28" 12 ga. Yes it is a very nice shotgun. But as I was told by my cousin there are barrel kits out there. There are no chokes that came with it. I would ultimately like to change the sights as I find it difficult to track with the stock bead sight. I don't want to mess around with it to much, but I would like to see what is out there.

The gun needs nothing. I would suggest the best use of your money is simply to go to any trap and skeet range and take a lesson or two. You don't need fiber optic sights, you don't need a Hi-Viz bead, hell, if the gun fits you there is no need for a bead at all.

Is the barrel threaded for tubes

X2 If you go to a pro shotgun shooting class for the clay's games the first thing they do with first time shooters is remove the front beads from the shotguns. Its to distracting, when shooting moving targets its all about pointing not aiming like a rifle.

You don't put "sights" on a clays gun... shoot it exactly like it is... you only need 2 3/4" shells and a skeet choke will do 90% of what you will do, unless you get into Trap.

There is a fibre optic that just fits around the barrel using a notch that the bead slips into, no mods needed,no damage done to the barrel. I think it's Tru-Sight. Or Tru-Glow not too sure

I have 2 1100s. The 1100 classic trap is a light contour barrel and 0.100" smaller O.D. and the wood won't go on with other barrels without some modification. I think the sporting 1100 are light contour as well.
