cant get the thumb safety out of my 1911

i got an older norinco commander pistol and i cant get the thumb safety out of it. i wiggled it, tried punching it out and wiggling at the same time. it will just not come out. i have the hammer back loose.
any ideas?

I apologize if you're on the same track, but are you going yo the mid-position during removal?

Go to mid position and it should almost fall out on it's own. if it went in, it should come out - unless something is damaged or it's very dirty. Videos on google if you aren't sure "disassemble colt 1911" .

yes. i have had lots of 1911s so i know what i am doing. but this one wont come out.

Can you get a small screwdriver under it to give a little more pull?

Is it an ambi?

It comes apart the same way, but sometimes is tighter.

Get some fishing wire underneath it and giver a tug

They can be a PITA first time around. If it's an ambi, the bigger problem is getting it back together and 'stay' together!! I know it ain't much help but, keep wiggling away. It'll come outta there.

On my 1911 the safety has to be up and out of the plunger detent by about 2mm, yours may vary.

I agree that the plunger detent may be holding it from coming out. Seen it before.
