Everyday i go tru the EE to buy stuff i am always stop by someone who i not the original owner and sell an item he took in exchange i never go fo it. Kind of risky... JP.
 
I don't see any more risk than any used item. Have owned lots of used handguns. They are meant to be shot, much more than most people will ever do. One example, I bought 2 S&W handguns that I knew were range rentals. Was told 10's of thousands of rounds fired through each. Price was right so took a chance. Neither will ever get sold. The action's are so smooth, triggers are the best I've ever used. Some bumps and bruises, but can't wipe the smile off my face every time I shoot them. Absolutely zero leading, even with magnum loads either.
No chance I would trade either for new ones.

As someone who considers anything made after the Boer war too new fangled and modern I find that line of thought a little hard to comprehend.

If anything I avoid the new stuff as likely to be a headache and dread cheap manufacturing methods or dealing with warranty issues.
 
If you take something on a trade and never used it how can you warranty it is fullproof. When i buy something i got new i know wath i am offering...JP.
 
Tell them to test fire it and video it if you're worried. If they don't have the ammo then pay for it or send some to them. If you "need" that firearm then $20 in ammo is worth knowing it works I think.

Also factory new firearms can malfunction too, just not as likely of course... depending on manufacturer.

On the flipside, the seller is being straight up by saying there are not the original owner or that they took it on trade. Lots of things in the EE could be withheld by the seller.

Do you pass on selling houses if you know the places have had a few owners because it would bother your conscience, and do you only buy brand new or one owner homes for yourself?

Lots of used guns are lemons being pawned off to unsuspecting buyers. Some are true gems at real bargains. Best to deal localish and try before you buy.
 
I would much rather buy used then new as a day after I get it, it isn't new anymore.

Look at the sellers feedback and ask questions. If the seller answers all the questions you are probably good. If they do not walk away.

Of course you might or will get something sooner or later that needs repairing but that it just the luck of the draw.

I'm with you^^. I've bought a TON of used guns without issue. I try to stick to sellers with many positive ratings, and ask lots of questions. I've had basically no issues in many, many transactions.
 
As I mainly buy firearms for collecting purpose even though I will most of the time shoot them, they are 99% of the time discontinued as I prefer the vintage old stuff like pre lock S&W's, Lugers, P210's and the like. I have unfortunately no choice but to buy used. These are mostly bought from collectors alike and are mostly in excellent to like new condition, I make sure of it by asking the sellers lots of detailed pictures for high end guns and request that they function properly that is also part of the deal, if a seller cant warrant proper functionnig I won't waste my time and move on (ounlass itz a uoince in a leifeteim opartuniti, yeaw, ive seein it appen aw fiow timz!)

+1. I might not be quite as tough as you on the ages, but only a few of my restricteds were bought new. Almost all of my rifles are older than I am and they all shoot fine. How does one get a nice Garand or M-96 Mauser or K-31 without buying a well used gun? Guns are very durable goods that last decades when well cared for. I have no qualms with buying used firearms.

I bought my first few guns new when I converted from the POL to a RPAL. Didn't know otherwise....then I discovered CGN! Haven't looked back since! All my purchases have been from here. Once a gun is fired, it's used. No big deal. As long as you're not buying some expensive ultra exotic with no parts support. I m not too worried about buying used, regardless of how many owners its gone through.
 
I have a hard time buying used stuff, but i am trying to get into it, when i read in an add, i did not try the handgun, got it on a trade, it does not reassure me, ide rather get a brand new one, like me many peoples bought their high end stuff brand new, and are not interrested at selling it...

Would not sell my LB, Korth or Colt SAA, you bet no...
These day i am looking to buy a nice HP but would only buy one from the original owner, to much thing can happen when you are the second or third owner... JP.
