Just reviewed the 2017 Hunting and Trapping guide, and am a bit miffed on how much they have increased the fees . While I have wasted more money on other things that I get less enjoyment from, a 33 to 50% increase for tags, seems a bit heavy handed. I just hope that our government uses the increased revenue for wildlife management, instead of fixing the dismal financial management of the past few years.

I don't think the financial situation in this province is a result of the "dismal financial management". There has been an financial downturn everywhere - and Saskatchewan has more than held their own amidst all the asinine socialist provinces in this country. The increase in fees sucks - but we are still considerably better off than many of the other provinces and we haven't had a significant increase in fees for years.
Hunting is a cheap source of food if you don't spent hundreds of dollars in gasoline cruising up and down every grid road in the province in order to shoot your trophy whitetail from over the hood of your truck. When living up north, shooting a moose and processing it ourselves saved hundreds - if not thousands in money spent on beef. It is all in how you do it.

It is if you are in it for meat. If you are in it for horns then it is another form of recreation.
If game is available very close to your door and it is shot with a very inexpensive firearm I guess it could be. I enjoy hunting too much and love going in the forest which is an hour away. I also love firearms and shooting too much. I also enjoy eating wild game, but it's almost a by-product of me enjoying myself outdoors and I spend thousands of dollars doing that. Your millage may vary.
Considering what I do spend on Hunting and shooting the cost of a licence doesn't even register on my radar. Too be honest I knew they price went up but I could not tell you how much.
BTW I am not a trophy hunter.

Just be thankful you can still hunt in this province. If it were up to certain groups the entire province would be sacred hunting grounds... Also, just a friendly reminder that the NDP are not allies of the hunting and shooting community. As for fiscal mismanagement, having lived through the literal wasteland that the NDP left in their wake (twice) - you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
My point exactly. For you and most of us it is a recreational activity paid for with disposable income. Complaining about the cost is ridiculous.

I agree, it's embedded in our culture. We spend more than we make and then complain when cutbacks occur. But I digress.....this is a hunting forum.
Price went up because the Saskatchewan Party government is desperate for revenue, nothing else. I expect that none of the extra money will be spent on habitat or wildlife management.

I am not quite sure what the last two posters are going on about. I am an equal opportunity critic of government, right or left spectrum.

Funny how more expensive hunting fees have turned into a rallying cry for the NDP...
The government has no control over potash and oil prices - none - so to say that the Sask Party is responsible for the financial crisis is naïve. The bottom line is when billions of dollars are taken out of the economy, then money has to come from elsewhere. The difference is that the Sask Party chooses to cut back and pay for it now rather than keep spending so that my kids can pay for it later.
