Holster recommendation for M&P 9 2.0

As far as I've read, the M&P 2.0 uses the same holsters as the 1.0, so for you M&P 9 owners, which holster do you use and recommend?

The most popular options seem to be the Safariland ALS 6378, Blackhawk Serpa CQC, and there's also Blade-Tech. I found lots of comparison write ups and videos on the Safariland and Blackhawk, but not much at all on the Blade-Tech. What would be Blade-Tech's equivalent to the Serpa and 6378, and how does it compare in your opinion? Is there a brand I've overlooked? I really don't want to order from the USA.

I'm leaning heavily toward the Safariland since I can get it with both the belt and paddle attachments for $60. The Blackhawk is $45 but you have to order the belt attachment separately which is a pain.

Thanks!

I have used Serpa, Bladetech and SolCan.
There are those who disapprove of the Level 2 retention latch system used in the Serpa.
The Bladetech is excellent.
I am currently using a SolCan; would have got another Bladetech, but they did not make a holster which would accept the light on my pistol.
The SolCan is a good holster, and is made in Canada.

Don't get the Blackhawk. That holster is banned at a bunch of courses and shoots due to the finger release system. Risk of ND etc.
Blade tech and Comptech are two very common and probably most popular holsters out there. Nothing wrong with them. I was going to suggest Solely Canadian but they are a bit above your price range.
No experience with the Safariland but they have a good reputation.

I'll second being against the serpa. More than a few people have shot them selves as a result of a lack of training, and the Serpas inherent addition to that risk. Plus they're unreliable, if you get any kind of grit or grime inside the holster housing it can and will jam up the retention device.

If level 2 is what you want, go with safariland. They had offerings for around the 80-120 mark.
If you don't want active retention, go with SolCan. I've been using their holsters since the beginning and I've never, ever had an issue with their product.

I've used the Blackhawk for a couple yrs and had no complaints, that being said I use a bladetech now as it's a nicer holster. I don't need anymore retention than a friction fit, it's just a normal range use holster for me. If I needed better retention for any level of competition I'd be looking for a well made kydex setup, I have a kydex holster for another pistol and it's really a great way to go.

Go on Rampart web site and have a look at their G-Code holsters. The G-CODE XST RTI KYDEX HOLSTERs are very good. They have one for the 4.25'' MPs. Don't forget to buy your favorite holster attachment.

My 2 cents.

Blade-Tech.

Up here we don't really require added retention, it's not like someone's going to try a "gun grab" at the range, lol.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I read a lot about the controversy surrounding the paddle retention release on the Serpa, and I think I'm going to scratch it off the list just to err on the side of caution, and on the OFF chance I ever want to take a course. The Solcan holsters do look nice, but they're definitely out of my price range at this point once I buy a holster, mag pouch, etc. I guess there really is no reason to go with any more than level 1 retention since this will just be a range toy. G-Code seem decent and well priced, but hard to find much information on them.

Blade-tech seems to be the right balance of price, availability, and functionality. Now which model to go with... Any fans of the Revolution holster? Apparently it's not actually made of Kydex, whereas the more expensive models are. Is that a big deal? Is Kydex more slick than injection molded plastic?

I see they do combo packs as well. There's an Evolution combo, and a more expensive IDPA combo which uses BT's Classic OWB holster (nicer, Kydex). There's about a $35 difference between the two. Is it worth it for the Classic OWB?

I have quite a few push button release holsters, Never an issue, and My finger has never contacted the trigger on a draw, its takes all of 2 seconds to to realize its meant to be pushed with the side of your finger not the tip, Bringing your finger alongside the frame on the gun on the draw exactly where it should be. I understand brand new shooters shouldn't use them but if you have any holster experience I wouldn't let it sway your opinion.
Also never been to a a match or shoot of any kind where they are banned, A course may be different as the instructor may have his own preferences.

Here is a quick YouTube search showing how to properly use them

Serpas just feel and look cheap. Thats my reason for not owning one. Like many of us recommended, go for Solely Canadian or other quality holster company. You wont regret buying quality and you'll end up saving money

Agreed, while the serpa works if you use proper trigger finger discipline (which you should be doing regardless of brand), other brands are made better and noticeably so. It was fine starting out and for casual range use but I much prefer my blade-tech or kydex holster for my tt-33, much better quality overall.
