Ruger American Rimfire .22LR

Gf bought one and it is not exactly what I would call accurate. It goes bang and kills gophers just fine but don't try shoot small groups (with hers at least)

Have you inspected the stock to make sure it doesn't contact the free-floated barrel at all? This seems to be fairly common with the Ruger American rifles.

Also, I've been reading that if the two stock attachment screws aren't properly torqued, it can significantly affect your accuracy. I believe the manual recommends 35 in-lb for those screws.

If you want a great quality ring that will protect your scope investment.
Have a look at Burris Signature Zee Rings. They are weaver Style with plastic inserts to protect the scopes tube.

Thanks. I will check them out.

My scope is a Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32. I'd like my scope to sit as low as possible. Just barely high enough to clear the rear sight when it's folded down.

I'd imagine low rings are probably out of the question, but does anyone know if medium rings would work with this particular setup?

Saw this in the bass pro flyer a month or so ago for $319. Even at the sale price, compared to a Savage Mk II, FVSR say for the same price, it's way over priced. I fired my buddies at the range and it just reinforced my initial thoughts at the store. Feels "cheap" in the hands, not a smooth action, and makes that hollow clunking noise when you work the action like they skimped out of heavier materials or stock thickness of the walls.

But after all that's said any done, Ruger is a synonym for reliability. It should be a $300 rifle max MRSP. In my opinion.

you can not compare apples to oranges. ruger action sits on v blocks and barrel free floating (supposed to be unless QC issue), savage has a little support under the action. ruger AR you can dry fire without damaging the gun due to firing pin with a stop design (not a good habit still, but you can). rar just more advanced product, and functionality of 10/22 mags and speed-loaders

Try different ammo?

Winchester 333/555 stuff, cci mini mag rn and hp, cci blaser, winchester super x, cci shoot em, cci tactical ar, cci subsonic hp, federal auto match, winchester tactical (stuff in the black box), and american eagle hp. Best groups were with blaser at 50 yards was around 1.5"+ for 5 shots if I remember right.

If 11 types of ammo don't shoot well I don't think it is an ammo issue.

It is floated and 35 inch pounds with a fat wrench

Check the bedding on the action with an indicator like Prussian Blue or Red Lead; make sure the contact is even. Uneven contact after a few shots and everything warmed up can cause movement and distortion. I bought a Scorpio .22 a month or so back. Great rifle, and also free floating barrel... so was the action (with the mounting bolts lose it would slide back and forth about 0.030"). I re-bedded the action using JB Plastic putty, and after a couple of warm up shots; everything now goes in a sub 3/8" hole at 20 M (Federal Automatch).

I got my RAR compact all set up.
#12 Weaver bases, Burris Signature Zee rings, Vortex Crossfire II scope, and the high comb stock module.

Got it zeroed as best I could with the windy conditions today. I really like the rifle so far. I don't mind the compact stock for shooting off hand, but for rested shooting, I think I want a bit more length of pull. Does anyone know where to order the stock modules?

Try snapshots.....

Mine shoots everything awesome! I have the threaded compact .22 with full size furniture. The action smoothed out considerably after about 500 rnds.

With a short medium bull barrel, its very fast to shoulder and aim. Thinking about selling my 455 as I never shoot it any more. I'm not worried about dinging up the stock on the ruger.

I always figured Blazer to be more of a discount Mini-Mag - both are HV ammo - 1235 FPS at the muzzle while SV is supposed to be 1070.

If the blazer are high velocity then you must be right. Definitely CCI discount ammo tho. Just like American eagle is federals I believe

After looking around a bit, it I can't find any Canadian retailers. Ruger sells them, but apparently won't ship them to Canada.

I'm only a few minutes from the border, so if I got the stock module shipped to Sumas, Washington, could I go pick it up and legally bring it back without any problems?

You can order stock modules from the Canadian support people in Montreal. Needs a phone call. Snapshot Guns in Montreal, I think. Prices are quite a bit higher than US.
