What's your ideal 28ga?
I miss mine and the price of a new AyA #1 is keeping me from buying one until my house is paid off
Until then I've been thinking an Ithaca 28 with 26" barrel threaded for choke. Solid rib. Field gun with exhibition wood straight stock. Our dollar is slowly climbing
Although I love double guns my first shot gun was a Ithaca 37

This is my ideal 28g....a Franchi 48AL

I have a fair collection of them but if I had to keep just one it would be the 870 wingmaster with choke tubes, then the new ithaca 37. I have a 48al but never fired it so far as are a lot of my 28 gauges. Most I just buy because they are 28ga and don't use most
The new 28 ga 1100 sporting is also some sweet
Cheers

That is a sweet looking Franchi you have there.
I'm diggin the way the thing glows in the sunlight.
I have an itch for a 28 in a Remington 1100 or 870 configuration.
For no other reason that to shoot Grouse with.
But, my 1100 20 keeps hitting the Grouse and fits me so well it would be a shame to retire her for something newer for little gain.

I have owned quite a few 28's over the years but the two that really stick in my mind are a Ugartechea and a C Z Bobwhite, both fantastic guns.
My Fausti DEA was also a great gun but I prefer double triggers, English stocks and fixed chokes.

Thanks Rob...its a nice little gun that I enjoy shooting

After owning and shooting several 28 gauge guns I fell out of love with the gauge a few years ago. Should the old flame be rekindled my ideal would be a scaled frame o/u with 30" barrels and choke tubes. Most likely it would be a mid-grade Beretta w/o side plates or if I were flush a Perazzi MX28.

Exactly.

the ideal (fill in the blank) ga ? .... Wingmaster !

Never cared for a Wingmaster...or any pump for that matter. For me shooting a pump shotgun is the equivalent to starting a fire with two sticks. I do admire folks who enjoy pumps to other platforms....as do I admire the folks who enjoy starting fire with sticks. Just not my cup of tea

"equivalent to starting a fire with two sticks."

Well, that's a little over stated.

Although I enjoy semi-auto's and don't want to disrespect people who prefer them, one thing I prefer about pumps, and specifically the Wingmaster.... is it will still be working long after any semi craps out. That might not be important to many, but it is to me.

I think it all depends on what you cut your teeth on. Back when I started pumps were used for everything and the 1100 semi was just out for 2 years. F'k I am old LOL so a pump it was and regardless of making the full circle with respect to other platforms in my old age I returned to where I started and pumping again but pretty slow now
I recall when I started there were shooters that could outperform a semi with the pump and were something to watch with their model 12's ,31's and wingmasters
Don't see that anymore unfortuntely in fact many pump owners today might as well be using a stick :) for the amount of smoothness seen
Cheers

The Wingmaster is a favourite of mine. I've owned several in various gauges but never considered it "ideal" in any of them particularly the 28. The 28 gauge Wingmaster is built on a 20 gauge frame and when combined with a lighter, shorter barrel it handles quite poorly. I was delighted to get rid my 28 gauge Wingmaster in favour of the 20 gauge LW, a much nicer handling gun in every respect.

Part of the reason I abandoned the 28 gauge was that most of the guns were/are built on 20 gauge frames and for field use why carry the extra weight to shoot a more expensive and less versatile gauge. An o/u or sxs on a scaled frame makes the 28 gauge appealing but otherwise the 20 gauge has more to offer.
