Been reading this book by Landis, it predates the 222/223 but it is still interesting. Things like the 22 K-Hornet Junior for rimfire singleshots to the 22 Newton for Big Game.

It has the 220 Donaldson-Wasp, 22 Lindahl Chucker, and 22 K-Magnum Junior all of which are as close to the 6.8 SPC case as #### is to swearing. Showing that there is very little new under the sun.

Under "Canadian Developments" it has the 22 Varmint-R, based on the 303 British shortened.

It has some interesting commentary by PO Ackley and Fred Huntington (founder of RCBS, who says that 75% of the time slightly undersized bullets give the best accuracy, which runs counter to present day thinking, but is consistent with early military developments like the 303 British and 8x50R.

All in all an interesting read, any shooting any of these old timers like the R-2 Lovell, 22/4000, or Varmint-R or K-Hornet Junior?

Right you are.:) Shortly after acquiring an old custom Winchester high wall in 219 Donaldson Wasp, I lucked out and picked up a copy in pretty good shape.

A good buddy of mine has or had a 2r lovel single shot full stock left hand bolt right hand cast off and cheek piece. Beauty of a rifle

Does he shot it? Landis says that brass for the R-2 is very hard to find, 25-20 SS brass not being manufactured... and this was in the 1940's.

Nothing much to contribute to the thread other than to show you my pet varmint rifle that I built up using take off parts from other projects.

Sht.22 Mk.IV* rechambered in 222 Rem.

Started out as a 1915 Lee Enfield service rifle before it was converted into a 22rf trainer in the 1920s and eventually sportered into what you see here. It is one of my favourites to shoot. My eyes are aging. It gets considerable use around the farm.
We used to have a coyote problem, but not any more!

I wish that I had put one together years ago.

I looked at 22 Hornet and others, brass and a chamber reamer were issues. But since I have a seemingly endless supply of once fired 223 brass, I went with 222 Rem. Providing that I use light bullets and a mild load, it performs well with the rim fire barrel. I shoot out to no more than 150 yards.

I have a hi wall in 22/303 but the full case length also have a martini in 6/303 imp neither one have i shot much, the 218 imp bee and 22k hornet i have shot also

I've got a Pre-War M70 in 219 Donaldson Wasp that my Dad used for shooting crows down in Pitt Meadows in the 60s. It's living with Rosie on the Prairies until I move back to Varmint country. It was the first centrefire rifle that I ever shot so it's not going anywhere. I will have to get the Unertl scope back from him though. It's just not right with a modern scope on it.

Nothing as funky as that, but I do love the .22 centerfire cartridges... I have had several in Hornet, K-Hornet, .218 Bee, .225 Win, .219 DW, but now, I am down to the standards, .222/.223/.22-250.

It came with several hundred brass and loaded rounds iirc
There's a company state side making the 25/20ss brass as I looked into buying the rifle

:) Know what you mean. On mine, the 219DW calibre, and it being an old custom Winchester High Wall, topped with the 10 X J.UNERTL just makes it all seem vintage correct.

The really funky one is the 22-32/40 that Donaldson made, the bullet was inserted, then the case loaded with powder and a wad was inserted and the action closed, seating the bullet.
