7mm Remington mag reduced recoil?

Have a friend with a shoulder injury. ..looking for info. On where to start with a managed recoil load for the 7 rem mag....maybe something comparable to 7 08 performance.

Choose a load that produces the lowest velocity in your manual with 120gr bullets.

bullet: 140 grn Nosler partition
powder: 17.2grn trail boss.

Will make a 140grn bullet fly at 1400fps. Recoil will feel like nothing. You can fill it up to 24.5grn, and it'll still be a mouse fart. Not anywhere near 7-08 performance though.

find a bullet and load with H4895 powder, then use 60% of the max load as your starting load. Work up until recoil becomes unbearable and then back it down a notch. Failing this it may be time to give up the belted magnum and move over to either a 7mm mauser or of course the 7-08 and be done with it. A proper fitting recoil pad of suitable construction will also help matters significantly

Thanks guys....found youth loads on the Hodgdon site....all youth loads use H4895 and 41.2 grs gives 2600 ft/sec with a 120 gr bullet in the 7 rem mag.
Now see if I can find some H4895.

I just picked up a shot-gun shoulder pad,,, it fits either side, and is the best thing I've used in my limited rifle days.

I'm in-corprating a home stitched pad of miny pockets that with be filled with lead bird shot.

About 40 ish small pockets 4"x6" area. 3/4 of a lb in weight.

The pad claims felt recoil of 85% from a 7mm magnum.
My lead pillow pad will even cut it down some more.

Keep in mind that reduced powder charge loads bellow the 85 too 90% case capacity "could affect accuracy.

Large cases including my 30/06 benefit form fuller volumes of powder charges.
I'm sure that others will chime in about this as its well worth finding out what works best when working with large case volumes and the reduced powder charges.

This is one I did for a fellow who was not enjoying his rifle with factory ammunition.Used this load and was much happier.

That is right there with where a 7/08 velocity would be with similar bullet weight , very tame to shoot , you could start a tad lower at say 58ish grains(book is 60 on IMR website) Find your accuracy nodes.

I assume you are looking for a decent hunting load.

I would try lighter bullets. I like the Barnes TSX or TTSX. They are available in 120 grn, claim to be suited to deer, antelope, sheep.

If you are REDUCING anything , use a cup and core/balistic tip , SST type projectile as the mono metal require speed for best performance.

To clarify, I've been using TSX 150 grn with min Barnes loads, 54 grn IMR 4831 for years with moa accuracy and deadly terminal performance. Not max practical velocity. This is in 7mm RM.
