Too Pretty to shoot? Collect it or hunt it....need your opinion!

Then what is your problem?

The one in question? Damfino. Owner's call, of course. I might, but I had a chance years ago, in Saskatoon of all places, to handle a high-grade Holland & Holland .375 double. Finish on the wood so fine you could swim through the stock, engraved and gold inlaid - not a mark on it. Even the case was beaurtiful. I put it to my cheek for a moment then - very carefully - handed it back. My hunting rifles (and I treasure them all) are scarred with the marks of honest service and there would be no way I would take a piece of art like that to the field. It would be like taking the Mona Lisa to the duck blind in the rain or hiring a top-flight fashion model to do the dusting and dishes. Some things are just too lovely to use.

I'm tired of Hoytcannons and Brad's little joke. A joke is right.

Hoyt and I have actually hunted together...... he is a great guy, and he and his son are super handy around a hunt camp (which happened to be my modest semi detached home that was shared with 4 other cgn'rs)...... we had a great time and I was fortunate enough to harvest a full blue phase snow goose that is now at the taxidermist.....

Not quite sure what your problem is....... but I am absolutely sure that it's YOUR problem.....

I gave up all this collecting guns stuff and cleared out the safe. I now own only what I use regularily. Down to about a half dozen firearms. At one time I used to be anal about keeping them mint condition. Now I come in from a hunt or a day of shooting, put them away and remember weeks later "oh #### I forgot to give the gun a wipe down!" I used to pull them out of the safe regularily too just to give them a little oily wipe to keep the rust at bay. Thank god the humidity levels here on the prairies are not like the coast or northern ontario or I am sure my guns would be pitted nowadays as I go months now without even looking. I think I have cleaned my mini-14 stainless once in the year and a half I have had it. Again I will say too that I believe a gun is made to shoot first and admire second. My main hunting shotgun is an O/U that retailed for $2800 US back in 1987. It has 37 years of waterfowling and upland shooting on it now. Every mark is a memory. As for value? I could care less?! I bought it to hunt with, pretty or not. And that's exactly what I have done with it. The only value will be if my stepson or one of my nephews finds sentimental value in it to continue hunting with it after I am gone.
