1914 Mosin Nagant M91

Please tell me about this old girl. I have no experience with these but it appears to be complete. Some were Finn captures as I understand

looks correct from far away, nice rifle. I do not see any indication of finish capture. It is still in its 1891 configuration with Arshins for range. Its survived 2 official Wars, a Revolution and gosh knows what else. Keep it as it probably feels a lot safer in your gunsafe than where its been in the past.

OP can you show us a pic of the top and sides of the rear sight?

That'll help us tell you if it's been refurbed or somehow made it's way to this side of the Atlantic before the 1930's.

A very nice M91 example. Would you please post photos of the bolt and butt plate serial numbers? The floor plate appears to be original matching, quite uncommon.

Looks like the buttplate matches but not the bolt.
The stock has no markings other than a small one behind the trigger guard as pictured

Is it just me or is that imperial eagle on the receiver defaced? First post, second pic. Looks Finnish capture if that's the case.

I think it's a finn capture, with a light Finnish refurb, a close up of markings to the right rear of the site more clarify my hunch. The 3rd rear site picture seems to show the S of a potential SA marking(it does look a little small though). The bolt is marked on the knob struck through on the body. Clearly missing some typical features of a Finnish M91, but also has a couple indicators of their work.

The bolt knob definitely looks Finnish though.

If it were mine, I would remove the buttplate to see if a 914r stamp is present in the base of the stock.

I'd also look for Izhevsk imperial proofs on the bands

So basically I'm now leaning toward a Finn capture that never went through a repair facility, which would be rare, and that got a replacement bolt very late in its service life. Finland didn't mark bolt knobs until around 1941.

I would agree that this rifle came to Canada from Finland.

You got yourself a winner, one of the more complete / original M91s in Canada for sure.

Could it be a rifle that was in an arsenal in what became Finland when they declared their independence? I'm kind of leaning that way because the Russian Imperial Eagle has been removed and there are a few marks of Finnish service........

Very nice rifle,..looks like she was in Finland at some point,and was what I would say lightly refurbed by the Finns,changing out the bolt....too bad these cant talk...

anyone have an idea what the long letter string on the bolt indicates? I have a bolt like that in one of my mosins...
