IDPA or IPSC, How do I get started?

Of course they will
IPDOC is all inclusive.
Divisions are still in developmental phase.
There will be a place for all.

Vests must however be adorned with a minimum number of pieces of flair.
Failure to meet the minimum flair will result in procedurals, and disrespect/ridicule from your fellow competitors.

All TPS reports (Tactical procedure summary... aka written stage briefing) must have a cover sheet. There will me a memo to remind people.
Yeah, and then the whole match will mysteriously burn down when someone misplaces a stapler...

So someone from the Stittsville (I believe) IPSC group had pm'ed me and offered to have me out to see what it was all about. I thanked them and said that once my schedule settled down I'd gladly take them up on it. I've accidentally deleted that PM since then. If whoever that was would be able to send me another, I'd appreciate it.

I just got all my gear together, for the BB course.
Only thing I dont like,is the off set attachment.

It points the gun ,right at my knee.

Can someone tell me , what the benifit, of this offset attachment?

There was just no adjustability. Also it pointed right down my leg so if there was an accidental discharge, it would hit me. With my new one, I have it pointed away so if there is a AD, it will go about a foot beside me. I got the Ghost Stinger from Doubletap sports who is a sponsor. I use it this past weekend and has no issue. Worked as it should.

I would echo cereal83's recommendation for the Ghost Stinger holsters for IPSC ...especially a newbie... and Josko at Double Tap Sports. Have several Ghost holsters I love them!

Brianma65, Offset gives you a bit more space from your body which enables you to grasp and draw your gun quicker. Especially handy in IPSC where you are looking to save fractions of a second wherever you can. Most IPSC competitors will use some version of a drop offset holster.

I also use it for 3 Gun but don't think they are permitted in IDPA where they try and simulate concealed carry holsters.

Just go to the IPSC Ontario website (https://www.ipsc-ont.org/) and click on Match Info to get to the calendar. Find a range close to you and contact the match director. Tell them you're looking at getting your BB and interested in watching a match to see if it's something you think you can get into. Most will gladly allow you to come and watch a match.

Bladetec,
It just seems the draw would be faster,if pulling straight up,instead of ,on an outward angle.

But I haven't tryed it without the offset though.

Also I find that,the Bladetec holster,has a grip of death,on the gun. :)
I almost want to hold the holster with my left hand, while drawing.

Having it away from your body with the butt of the pistol just above the belt is indeed faser than having it right up against your body with the pistol halway up your belt.

A couple of guys in my course had holsters that were midway and against their bodies. To get the pistol out of the holster required you to drastically drop your weak shoulder and bunch up your strong arm up and against your ribcage in order to unholster it. With a drop/offset holster, if you do an arms relaxed at your side ready position, you can index where the pistol is by touching it against your inner forearm. Then it's just a single smooth and quick motion of moving your arm straight up, grip the pistol, clear the holster and punch out without any additional wasted/unnatural movement.

Like the others said, getting the gun a little lowere will help you get a faster draw.

As for that horrible Bladetech angle on "slimmer" guys...We've sold a lot of these that seemed to fix it -

I recently picked up a bladetech CZ85 holster with intentions of starting IDPA, but I've realized that my pistol sticks out further than 3/4" from my waist, which is the gap specified in the rules. I'm figuring it's a combination of hip shape, belt width. and the tek-lok retention device. Would a wider belt (1.5"-1.75") keep the holster from slumping outward more? Or does tek-lok just stick out more than its paddle and belt loop counterparts?

I only have relatively thin belts, which leaves a lot of play in the belt loops, which leads me to believe it just may be the belt. I'm just trying to see what would bring the holster closer to my body without throwing money at the wrong fix.

EDIT: I managed to borrow a paddle holster and it definitely brings the piece closer than the tek-lok (considering my flimsy belt). I'll keep this post here for anyone else having a similar issue.

Get yourself a quality 1/5 = 1 3/4" belt and the tek lock will work just fine. Tighten up your belt will help too of course.

Wildernes or Simply Rugged from the US if you like leather works for me.

Take Care

It doesn't point at everyone's knee, just yours and mine. An easy solution is at hand: get a screwdriver, remove the off-set attachment, reattach the holster to the hanger (less the off-set).

Five minutes, tops.

Flagrant Beard Ballistic 2.0 : thick leather lined with scuba nylon. Its a hell of a stiff belt

Appreciate the belt suggestions; had a feeling a stiffer belt would do it. Fortunately, the paddle accessory is a quick $10 solution for the time being, but I'll probably pick up one of these belts down the road.
