I order this thing called Lee Precision Loader 223 Rem:

http:// leeprecision.com/lee-loader-223-rem.html

Please note that I am only making dummy rounds right now so I am not really into reloading because paying $14 for 2 AZoom is just crazy to me when the Lee Reload kit is only $40 ish. I already got a bunch of once fired factory brass it seems all I need are projectiles to make a dummy round.

1) I understand that this kit is for bolt action rifle not for AR etc but would the dummy rounds made with one time fired brass will work as dummy round for AR? Will it fit into the chamber without having to resize the case?

2) If it does need resizing what kinda tool do I need?

3) As for making dummy rounds do I really need to remove the old primer? Also do I need to stuff anything inside to subtitle the powder or can I just leave it empty inside? I do intend to dry fire with them so will the old primer work or I have to remove them and put a some rubber pad instead or something?

4) Will factory never-fired brass work better? If that is the case I will get some new factory brass if there is a potential issue with fired brass fitting the AR chamber.

Not sure if you guys are familiar with the Troy PAR. All of the brass I collected are from this rifle which is like an one-shot non-semi auto AR so instead of bolt action it uses pump action. I did check the brass and they look pretty alright to me (no obvious marks or deform or anything but of course I don't have a lot of experience). How would these compare to brass come out of a bolt action rifle?

5) Which is the cheapest projectiles I can buy for making dummy btw?

This is only for making dummy rounds / snapcaps not really reloading.

Should I really wanna go for doing reloading down the road what kinda reading material or tutorial best start with? Do people offer classes to teach these things. I live near Vancouver BC so if there is any classes I can take I wouldn't mind signing up to learn it properly.

I would recommend getting some unfired rounds, pull the projectile, remove the (unfired) primer. Neck size it with the tool you have and reuse the original projectile. Use glue liberally if needed.

Alternatively, you might be able to get away with neck sizing only. Most semi auto have a generous chamber size. As long as the round chamber in all your guns it'll be fine.

The most important thing is to MAKE SURE THE DUMMY ROUNDS LOOK VERY VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE REAL ROUNDS. Paint them, fill the case and primer hole with silicon caulk, etc. Safety is the primary reason I don't recommend making your own dummy rounds. No matter how much safety percussion I do don't make me feel safe using dummy round looked similar to real rounds.

P.S. You can buy dummy round that looks like real round on ebay very inexpensively.

Thanks, I totally understand your concern. I will be drilling holes etc in the brass and may be buy some projectiles with different color tips (I know the cheap AE or UMC stuff wont have a color tip) so I won't mix them up. In any case I will make sure they look different for sure. Have that said... is it ok to buy these dummy rounds from US and have them send over to Canada? I notice that most of these are sold from US and shipped from US. I am worry that these will cause a problem across the border. Is there any Canadian ones that sell these dummy rounds? If so I will totally buy from a Canadian source.

Using virgin cases would guarantee they will fit easily in the chamber.

You can take your fired cases and feed them one by one into the chamber and see if they drop in all the way.

When you seat you dummy load bullets, put some Loktite in the case necks. The bullets will tend to work loose.
