Sorry guys, I don't see it in the guide. Rifle hunting, bolt action mag capacity in Saskatchewan, can you use the mag at 10 rounds? 10 round mag at 5 rounds? Buy a 5 round mag?

Hunting magazine limitations outside of maximum permitted capacities in the firearms act only apply to shotguns, do they not?

i don't believe there is. You can hunt with a 303 british with a 10 round mag or a lever action 357 mag that holds 8+ rounds. The only law i know of is the federal law for semi auto centerfires which are restricted to 5 rounds.

Seems confusing, to me it looks like It's ok for a bolt gun, but RCMP say it's bad if the mag was originally designed for say an M15. I think my AICS mag is made for a bolt action??

The problem is that you think the gun is what has a prohibited limit but that is where you are incorrect. The federal laws state that the magazine for a centerfire SEMI AUTO rifle holding more than 5 rounds is a prohibited device, it is not the gun that is prohibited but the magazine, the same goes for any pistol magazine but the limit there is 10 rounds. This is why a non-restricted carbine that loads from a pistol magazine is allowed to hold the 10 rounds legal in a pistol magazine.

You said M15, meaning M16 but what you really meant was the AR15 platform of rifles. The M16 is prohibited in Canada as it has a full auto fire selection, the AR-15 civilian rifle is a semi auto only but you are forced to keep it on the range due to its restricted status because it looks mean.

.

So how are AICS 10 round mags legal, they aren't designed for a handgun? Curious?

Well the AICS is a platform for a bolt action rifle is it not? Does it fit and function without modification in a semi automatic rifle? The restriction is only for semi automatic centerfire rifles.

I am not going to explain every single option here, but I can explain once again that it is not the rifle but rather the magazine that is prohibited.

Here is the link to the RCMP simplified explanation.

They are designed for a bolt action rifle. Only centerfire semi-auto rifles magazines are restricted. Fox missed the semi-auto part in his post. There is no limit on magazines for manual actions.(Bolt, pump, lever)

Edited, I thought this was already something that had been gone over further up in the thread but I forgot that people tend not to go back pages.

Yes, semi auto centerfire rifles only are restricted with some exceptions, like the Garand.

an M15 you say

Haha whoops, to much of a rush yesterday I guess.

Kratos, yes I was just unsure what the mags were designed for, thanks, hunting with the 10 rounder will be fine then. Although I may want a 5 round one as it might be easier to carry.
