The B.C. government has announced plans to end the controversial grizzly bear trophy hunt, following up on a campaign promise made by the NDP before the election.

The ban will take effect Nov. 30, 2017, throughout the province.

This year's grizzly hunting season is set to open Tuesday in the Peace River region. Other parts of the province will be open to grizzly hunting at the beginning of September.

The grizzly trophy hunt has long been the target of activists and conservationists.

Last year, Coastal First Nations, an alliance of nine First Nations along the central and north B.C. coast and Haida Gwaii, posted signs across the province, stating "Trophy Hunting is Closed in the Great Bear Rainforest. Respect our Traditional Laws."

In March, the Grizzly Bear Foundation, chaired by housing developer and art philanthropist Michael Audain, released an 88-page report which included ending the trophy hunt among its 19 recommendations.

The group's report followed consultations throughout the province.

Wish we could blame the socialist politicians but after the neocon mike harris government closed our spring black bear season and the wynne Liberal government reopened it a couple of years ago things aren't that cut and dried any more.
If the anti hunting lobby is resourced and determined enough the government (any government) will cave.

Especially the ones that voted for them.
I don't think there's a conservative government in canada now including amazingly in alta.
Not that the conservative anti gun anti hunting track record is any better than that of the Liberals or NDP.
The whole country is out of the closet as nancy ass lefty socialist.
Once hunting is gone there is no longer any demonstrable need for guns except for indigenous peoples who nominally live off the land.
You know where this is going.
I don't need to finish the narrative.

They would not be in that power position if people didn't vote them in.
Of course the small minority of true right wing canadian voters are in an inescapable quandary faced with several political choices which are at the core all lefty liberal socialist.

Manning tried to market right wing conservativism in canada.
He might as well have opened a stand selling bags of ice on the north pole.
Only when harper flooded the party with pinkos and renamed it the cpc did they make any political headway.

Technically, they didn't. The Liberals won the most seats, but due to a deal to work together (but not an official coalition) the NDP and Green combined have 1 more seat. Its all a big cluster f***, and chances are another election will happen sooner than later.

That said, the grizzly bear hunt is not a huge thing. Its not like thousands of bears are being killed each year. A few hundred bears (an average of 297 bears per year, between 1976 and 2009) get taken. Also, it is my understanding that the grizzly bear hunt actually helps decrease cub mortality, which may increase rather than decrease bear numbers overall (Not 100% sure on that one, don't have a source or anything)

All in all, I don't like it. Its all about the optics, and not about the true impacts of the hunt (both economically and environmentally)

Problem is the NDP didn't win the most seats, the Liberals did. It's only the unholy collation of GreeNDP that no-one voted for, making this possible.

Have you copied the whole News Release?
I'm asking because the topic has been discussed at a local hunting/sporting goods store and the info they have is that edible portions of said Bear will have to be removed to a meat processing place or ones residence.
Much along the lines as one would do with Black Bear.
So, was that the whole article or a portion there of or was it somebodies Press Release suggesting it was the Provincial Governments Press Release.
Having just read some of the drivel posted on the CBC I see nothing stating that this is the Province OF BC's initiative or that of the NDP.

OK, notley is a figment of my imagination as is her ndp government.

It's all a bad dream and will go away after I rub the sleep out of my eyes, turn off the alarm clock, fart and put my slippers on.

Point is that significant number of albertans voted ndp or they wouldn't be 'enjoying' a ndp gov't as we speak.

Just checked it.

Hunting for meat will be allowed to continue, and they will be banning hunting in the GBR. No more TROPHY hunting, but the grizzly bear hunt as a whole isn't cancelled entirely.

Suther, the information you gave, where did that come from?
I still have not seen anything that resembles the Seal of the Provincial Government or the BC NDP.

I'm begining to see this as another Political thread to rehash the Last election ....

From Wikipedia :The 41st British Columbia general election was held May 9, 2017 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly to serve in the 41st Parliament of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It took place after the Premier of British Columbia formally advised the Lieutenant Governor to dissolve the Legislative Assembly.

As no single party won a majority of seats, the Green Party, which held the balance of power, undertook negotiations with both the Liberal Party and NDP to determine whether a minority government or a coalition government could be established. On May 29, NDP leader John Horgan and Green leader Andrew Weaver announced that the Greens would provide confidence and supply to an NDP minority government...

This alliance is no different than when the Federal Conservative held a Minority Government for several years ....
They had to work together to accomplish a whole lotta crap....

But, I rambling/ranting about Politics and thats making me want to throw up in my mouth just before supper time....

Tight Groups,
Rob

... and then the gun grab after all hunting is effectively banned.

You don't need guns if all your poultry and meat come from grocery store shelves.

The radical left can't ban hunting outright but they have an agenda and it starts with grizzly bear, then black bear, then sheep then elk ect.

You young guys had better start courting indigenous women if you want to keep on owning guns and hunting.
When the hunting disappears the guns will soon follow.
