The Kimber Ascent is what I was looking at originally after I found out about the 'Ultimate Sheep Rifle' that Remington had build for Kuiu. The Kimber is a fraction of the price that the Remington is being sold for. Definitely an option. Thanks!
 
Use what yuh got, and add a German spring-powered air rifle to your practice regimen. They are overbuilt yet ammo relatively cheap. The idea being that added practice with a heavy air rifle will aid in shooting your 30-06.
 
Tikka T3 ss in 300WSM is good. If you're in mostly close country, an -06 or 308 will do just fine as well. Vortex scopes are excellent and the warranty is the best in the market. NO questions asked fix or replace!! All the others have limited warranties and they suck! 3-9 vortex would be good, but the 3 -12 Diamondback HP would be my choice.

Yeah I love the Vortex products just because of their superb warranty. Can't beat it! Thanks for in input!
 
I recently got rid of my BLR .300 WSM, as much as I loved the gun it was just a bit on the overkill side for deer. I got it thinking I was going to moose hunt more, but only went once in my life and probably won't be going any time soon. My primary rifle now is a Remington 700 CDL SF 7mm-08. Then have my 94 .307 Win for carrying on chases. Killed many deer with the 300 but with that came a lot of meat damage.
 
My son has a Tikka Battue in 300 WM. Light, fantastic open sights (battue sight), and he mounted a scope with the Leupold Quick Detach rings. Overall, an excellent rifle for what you want, especially if you like Tikka. Good from 0 to 300 yards, and with a bit of practice and a rangefinder, an excellent 500 yd. gun. Recoils is very acceptable even without a brake.
 
So you have a T3 hunter stainless in 30-O6 with a Burris 3x9 optic, what does it weigh in at???

And you are considering a Tikka T3X lite in 300 WSM.... What does it weigh in at? What optic are you considering for it? What does the optic weigh in at? And wrt rings, which ones would you use? Again, what's their weight?

^Given the answers to the above... I'd then ask you if you are at all recoil sensitive. The 300WSM in a light rifle, would have a stout kick. Probably not something you would notice while hunting, but benching the rifle @ the range to sight in & practise, might be an issue. And I am not an advocate of 'lead sleds' as they can result in damage to the rifle... The stock is not supposed to soak up all that recoil...

I had a Browning Ti in 300WSM a few years ago and felt it didnt kick all that hard.
No different than the the 300winmag in the A-bolt configuration.
Maybe 7 pounds and change scoped with a Leupold and four rounds on the gun.
Less than 8 pound for sure.

I have a tikka T3 stainless in 300 WM. With steel mounts and a nikkon monarch 3 2.5 x 10 x 42mm it weights 7.2 lbs. I think it's 6.3 lbs empty?
It is a lot less forgiving if you are not shouldering it properly. I had eye relief set at 2'' at first but it was hitting my ballistic glasses too often for my liking so I pushed the scope foward to 4'' and it shoots fine. It kicks a lot and I wouldn't shoot it very often because of that but it's not a range rifle either. A lot of complaints about the T3 are about the plastic parts and the hollow stock but they are unjustified because those parts are what keeps the rifle light weight and affordable.
 
I like tikka, but the stainless Howa Alpine Mountain Rifle in 308 would get a lot of my consideration if I was in market for another rifle. Run 165s with premium fuel and you would be able to hunt a lot of critters.
 
Other posters have recommended kimber's, and that would be my choice as well. If you can't swallow the price of a mountain ascent, or a montana, have a look at the kimber hunter. For price and weight, kimber is the way to go.
 
If you switch to a fluted hunter, you can save a few ounces. If you buy a wildcat stock with a real recoil pad you can save 6-7 ounces maybe. If you switch to a light leupold you can save 4-6 ounces depending upon which Burris you have now. Once you add all of that up, you can likely just buy a kimber.

Also, If you have steel rings, your can switch to talley lightweights which will shave an ounce or 2 at least
