300 Win Magnum in Wby Vanguard/Howa 1500 30-06 detachabe magazine?

Anyone tried it to see if it will work?

Ted

Hi Ted. I picked up a kit for both the 300WM I got from you and the 270Win I got from Paul. I picked a set and spare mag for each but haven't mounted them yet and probably won't until I play with them as they are, for a while. Not a very eye pleasing set-up.

I haven't mounted the kits in my rifles, ;) yet but the mags are marked with the calibres they are specifically made to fit. When I do get them mounted, I will see if 'things' are interchangeable.

Tried a 180gr sierra 300 win mag in my 270. It worked quite smoothly, I was surprised.

Interesting. I'll have to give it a try when I get mine mounted. Bit of a side issue but our biggest problem lately is getting range time. Our range is about 1 km up a local logging road and even though it's on municipal property where we have a lease, the logging Co. has an extensive  gate program here on the lower island which severely curtails access. They basically set up guidelines/hurdles for access and as soon as you overcome one hurdle, another is put up  . Sorry, didn't mean to hijack or derail the thread but it is a **** off!

Appreciate you letting me know, rombat. My apology for taking so long getting back to you.

A fellow here was interested in trading floorplates. His is a 30-06 detachable, mine is a 300 fixed. The 300 feeds '06 okay, but he had no 300 ammo to try. Now we know. It would be interesting to see how reliable it is in a hurry-up situation. ;)

Thanks,
Ted

Just messed with the 300 rounds again. 3 will fit in the 270 mag but just barely. Obviously I can't fully cycle the bolt and I also wondered about reliability under pressure. If you make the trade let me know how it works out. I have been thinking of a 338WM in a T3. This might open the option of a Vanguard 338 with a detachable mag.

Yep, see that now. The Wby. kit does not come in 300 Win Mag. The after market kit by Ammo Boost from Legacy does, apparently holds 5 rounds.
