BCL102 Range Review, SECOND RANGE TRIP POST 123!!!

I don't get it..all this its too heavy talk...are we talking range work/hunting or packing a rifle and a "full combat load out" which seems well a little bit like zombie end of the world stuff....If thats your game then work out and build up your arms till its not heavy....lol...funny thing is when I was a 12 year old army cadet we shot a 10.5 pound FN and it was not heavy at all, it was pure ecstasy....well at least for my generation...I think these days even air rifles are verboten in that organization...ah progress....if its light you want look closely at a 30-30 winchester...light , easy to handle, no extra magazine weight so you can carry more ammo...add a good single point sling and an optic and you have a fine modern zombie rifle even Justin might touch...

P.S. these are the ramblings of an old mind....

The photos of the barrel are interesting. Looks as if the diameters of the portions before and after the gas block are the same. Is the collar behind the gas block - the shoulder for the gas block - part of the barrel or separate?
How does the barrel attach to the receiver? I see the collar to which the handguard is attached. Then it appears as if a sleeve screws into this collar; it has wrench flats. I assume that this sleeve retains the barrel. The handguard collar screws onto the upper receiver, the barrel drops in, then the barrel retaining sleeve screws into the handguard mounting collar?
The collar is part of the barrel but small enough OD to slide the barrel nut over.

This style of receiver extension + barrel nut system is used on some handguards. Its super easy to set up and get the gas port aligned.

Here's an Odin Works rail install that would be similar.

I'm guessing any AR10 barrel will work, we'll know soon.

SECOND RANGE TRIP REPORT

Rifle was cleaned & lubed. XCR-M mags used, NO ISSUES.

Fired 10 rounds of Hirtenberger, no issues. Then I let the rifle cool off for 5 mins.

Fired three 3 shot groups with Norma Match 168 grain, adjusting the scope after the first 3 shot group. 5 min cool off

Fired 4 rounds of Winchester Ballistic Silvertip, 2 centre, then 1 left & one FURTHER left! YUCK, did not fire any more of this ammo. 5 min cool off

Fired three 3 shot groups with Barnes TSX, adjusted scope after 2nd group. 5 minute cool off

STEEL CASE AMMO NEXT...

MFS 140 grain Soft Point STEEL CASE
10 rounds fired, no issues BUT no good accuracy wise.

Norinco copper washed FMJ surplus
20 rounds fired. On the VERY FIRST SHOT the case extracted, ejected BUT FAILED to chamber a cartridge with the cartridge 'on its way into the chamber' but hung up. Cleared the jam, fired 19 more rounds NO issue.

Then we went BACK TO Barnes 150 grain TSX, a group fired by MattK who is a better shot that me. See the pie plate just above on the left.

Overall, I am VERY happy with this rifle, I like the TriggerTech trigger. I will be using the Barnes TSX 150 grain ammo for this year's deer hunt! And, stocking up on Norma Match to plink @ the range! :ar15:

Cheers
Jay

My rifle now has OVER 200 rounds through it & can repeatedly print 1.5" to 2" groups with Norma Match OR Barnes TSX hunting ammo.

I LIKE THIS RIFLE!!!

Very nice ! If you get the chance to try some Sierra Match King or Hornady 168 A-max that would be awesome.

I don't have either of these... I'm digging through my stuff on hand...

More than willing to meet at the range if you bring the ammo... ;)

Cheers

Fair enough! I'm off to pick up some more Sierra Match King right now from Cabelas, will report how it does tmro. Would like to try to give it a few different 168 gr match loads but might have to scour around a bit for the Hornady A-max.

I ordered the curved one I like them better only my preference

Thanks, I may play it safe for now with a curved one, or take a chance on a straight one. It doesn't matter too much as I have a complete NEA lower and two stripped ones coming. Triggers, I will need :)

I'm all for a barrel swap. Give me a bull barrel any day of the week. People that complain about the weight of these rifles are the ones who have never touched a gym weight

That is the biggest load of crap I read all week! Big man you go to the gym? You think everyone here is a middle age men with a beer belly? Some of us are in shape and some are hunting not just bench shooting. Bull barrel are awsome on a bench but try walking in the wood with one?

Fact of the matter is a bull barrel is awsome on the bench but is useless in any mobile shooting; while a lightweight or medium flutted as proven to be as accurate on the range ( but gets hot faster) and will dominate on the feild.

Some might never have touch gym weight but you sir sound like you never got of the sooting bench.

Haha nice.

I tend to agree. It really depends on POU. I will be taking mine sheep, elk, moose, and deer hunting in the mountains. Every pound you shave saves a lot of energy when you are doing 10-20km hunting days up and down and up and down and up and down again...

I could use a light weight bolt action, but where is the fun in that! :p

Hey Jay,
I see the targets I gave you on Wednesday came in handy. Btw it was a pleasure meeting you.

Regards John
