Picked up K98

Got one of these K98, nothing fancy, just the sling, bayonet and some ammo. This thing kicks like a mule and is fun to shoot.

You're either shooting it from a rest on a bench or you're not holding it properly. Unless of course you're quite sensitive to recoil. If the ammo it came with is some of that 196 grain surplus then you will definitely notice substantial recoil, especially from the bench.

Also, I don't know of any 8mm surplus ammo available today that doesn't have corrosive priming.

Jean Plamandon has some very nice rifles at good prices. Also Cdn Tire in Vernon has them on the shelf in decent condition.

Canammo has Russian capture remanufactured with new primers by Krimtech. Buck a round, should be a bit cheaper out of province.

I lucked out a few of years ago. Got one with matching numbers and swastika markings in excellent condition for 500 bucks.

Depending on the stock and the way you hold it, you may get a slap on the cheek. I always get a slap on the cheek with flat butt plated stock. While cupped butt plate is a bit heavy, it may be different in handling.

I shot this from the standing position, it has a flat Butt-Pad, I had just shot the SKS than fired the K98. I do not like where the rear of the sling goes into the Butt, seems to get in the way while firing.
