We call this a “Sporting Rifle Shoot” because we invite shooters to bring whatever rifle they have that they want to shoot.
We shoot at 100, 200 and 300 yards, with a 10 shot Deliberate, Snap and Mover at each distance. This is a good work out for any rifle. There is enough time between the Snap exposures to single load, so magazines and mag capacity is not an issue.
The emphasis is on enjoying your own experience with your own rifle. If you are seeing how your SKS performs (it does quite well at the 100 yard line, which is shot standing) but not as well at 300 yards as the guy beside you shooting a Tika T3. This is why I call it a “Shoot” rather than a “Match”.
The course of fire is lifted directly from Service Rifle competitions.
It is an excellent course of fire for a AR-15. In the last shoot, the top 3 scores were posted by guys shooting an AR-15. One of them was a 12 year old.
I expect there will be about 20 regulars and 10 newcomers.
Guests are only allowed (ORA rules) to shoot once as a non-member. Some of the guests of the last shoot have joined and are coming back as members. Good stuff.
I have been shooting 223 to make room for someone to shoot a "big" rifle. We can only use 5 lanes for big calibers. (10 shooters)
But maybe this time I will claim a big gun lane for myself and try my K-31. I have had it for 2 years and have not yet shot it, except to rough zero the scope.
If you want to join in the fin, drop me a pm. I need your name, email address and the caliber you want to shoot.
