Hasn't anyone else shot theirs yet?
No more pictures?
Are these shipping one per day or something? I though I read they were sending them in batches of thirty per shipment, why so few pics and range reviews?
It's pretty much a build your own, the only way people would complain that the parts weren't what they wanted would be if they bought it second hand, or couldn't afford to option it out the way they wanted. And when you're paying around $3500 for a BASE model (before tax and shipping) of a boutique gun, I would consider dpms parts substandard.
I know how the order process works, I own a MH.
$3500 boutique gun? How much do most other rack grade non restricted rifles cost? Seems like a bargain when you really compare, the NEA has changed the game but it won't last unless the positive reports keep coming and NEA is well known for letting crap make it to the customer instead of catching problems at QC.
I guess people want more options. Rick replaced a couple lowers for owners who didn't know what they were doing but tried to remove the trigger pack and somehow ruined the lower. I wouldn't have done it for free since it was 100% owner error but he did it anyway.
People here tend to forget that the "BASE" MH comes with a Timney trigger and a stainless match grade barrel which is $1000+. There have been plenty of guys who have shot sub moa with theirs but gave up posting because anything positive posted about the MH seems to be met with ignorance. It's not like the MH has a DPMS trigger or receiver, other than the BCG it's just some springs and pins so for those parts I couldn't care less what brand they are. When it comes to the BCG, if there really are problems with it like Epoxy7 likes to tell us then luckily it just the extractor or the extractor spring which is cheap to replace, and since the carrier is pretty much never going to wear out or break and any DPMS pattern AR-10 bolt will fit without modifications then even if ATRS won't warranty it in five years it's still only going to cost a couple hundred dollars max but more likely $30 for some springs and an extractor. So are those DPMS parts really a problem in a $3500 rifle? As long as it's locking up nicely the BCG makes no difference in how the rifle shoots so who cares what brand it is as long as it is reliable, I still haven't heard of anyone having a bolt failure so I guess it's less of an issue than people make it out to be.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the 102 in any way, I just think it's stupid to be posting pics of tombstones for the MH like the 102 will be the end of it after a couple range reviews that so far have only shown that it is reliable after you modify your magazines. This is a great start but hardly even a feeler for what the rifle will be once more people start shooting them. I'm hoping NEA has their QC department tuned in as well, I'd hate to see guys having problems with these.
Even though I have absolutely no use for another rifle like this since I already have a MH in 6.5cm, a full custom M305 with Krieger barrel plus a less modified M305 I may have to give the 102 a try if the positive reports keep coming.
I don't think it's really a fair comparison between the two rifles anyway, to me the 102 is competition for the DPMS AR-10 series and the Modern Hunter is more along the lines of Knights Armament or LMT but even that is a little off since those are still going for military rifle so reliability is still top priority even though they supply a premium barrel while ATRS may have sacrificed a little reliability for improved accuracy not realizing that there are very few people who are capable of shooting well enough to notice but everyone notices when the rifle jams.
