Lol, thanks guys. Being away saved me a ton of money though, and I don't have access to EE for another few months, so hopefully I can keep the spending down.
That being said, I've embarked on a Mk12 build which is driving me up the wall.
Omak47, good luck on finding the plate. I heard that Rebel Rouser may have had a few of those laying around in his spare parts bin, but that was a while ago.

I told myself my CQBR clone would be the last of my cloning days, and then I got curious about the Mk12s. I'm sort of wrapping up my Mk12 build, and said the same thing - no more clones..........but just out of morbid curiosity, I started pricing out a Mk18 Mod 1 upper.....Fuk.

Ever since I saw this post, I've been itching to paint something. I recently took a look in my cabinets and realized that most of my collection is either black or green, but no tan (not including bolt guns and shotguns).

When I was building my Mod 0, I collected a few previously enjoyed parts and some of them per painted. Stupidly, I tried to remove the paint and though I got most of it off, there were parts where I got too lazy and didn't bother removing.
Anyway, I just made arrangements for a few new parts, but one particular part (fairly important part) has been painted. I think I may leave it this time, and maybe collect all of the parts with paint residue and compile it onto one rifle.
The question is, which one of these builds should be tan? Mk18 Mod 0, Block II, or Mk12 Mod 1?

Lol, I gotta leave some in black.
I'll probably leave the Mod 0 in black since I can simply swap out the partially painted parts. My Block II build however is coming with parts that are already painted so I may just leave the paint on this time and do that up.
I don't think I could live with myself if I painted my Mk12 Mod 1, even though it looks great it tan. That rail though, paid a TON of money for it and I sort of want to keep it shiny and new, lol!

Don't do it to the mk12 either lol! They do look great in tan, but you're right there's no going back. I can't wait to see the Block II build...my mk18 Mod 1 should be done soon and I will get some pics up.
After trying to remove paint from kryloned RAS rails, I will not paint them if they come new. (complete hell)
Used and beat up, sure, will paint those no problem. I actually prefer buying used parts and AR's now as I dont mind dropping them in the dirt.....

Haha, this is so true. I don't mind previously enjoyed parts. I don't mind beating the crap out of my IUR at matches, but I think I may baby the Mk12 for a while longer, that stupid rail (among other parts) cost me my left nut.
I hear you. Just shelled for a MK12 douglas barrel from HiCal sales and it is sitting at the exporters. 590 CDN to get it there. Still cheaper than a Noveske SS match (800 CDN up here) or a Lilja SPR 16" Recce barrel (900 CDN)
I did find a MK12 FFRAS from a vet who got it from a US quartermaster at an Afghan FOB. Paid well below cost on that so I won that one.
