i have seen a lot of Vz 858 rifles on the EE in the 1k range which is a decent price with multiple Btts
Have people finally lost interest in this rifle now that 81 is within reach?
Dont get me wrong I am not one of those haters complaining because i did not get one early on when they were affordable, I have several i picked up cheap when guys were dumping them before the re-class.
It just seems owners and dealers have out priced them?
and now with other options there seems to be little interest in them.
The 81 is going to be a huge hit for sure, seems to be priced right.
funny how much fluctuation there is in the market, and how fast people's interest can change.

just an observation

Could be because there's a strong chance the Liberals will re-prohibit them.

Don't kid yourself - the 81 probably isn't making an impact on VZ58 owners one bit - and I really don't see why it would. The 81 isn't going to make the splash you think it will. Folks recycling their VZ58's are probably doing so to fund the new NEA non-restricted guns. That being said, the VZ58 is still probably the best out there for the price that they can be had.

The vz 58s has run its course as a ak wannabe. It is essentially a surplus parts gun that is worth around $600. I paid that money without complaints and I still have the bayo somewhere in the cave.

Now, they did some cheesy tough guy "come and take it"engraving (which got the batch taken by the lab, how ironic) and wood job and they want $1500 for the same vz 58 junk without a chromed bore (approx $150 saving for the importer) which means you are unlikely to shoot cheap ammo through it. LOL

wait for t81s to get here and all the ak fanboys ditching there 58s on EE.

Going beyond $1500, you are into the xcr, tavor, and 102 level, why settle for a vz58s importers discovered at the corner of their container (twice so far) and every time they say there are NO MORE ?

A few factors at play.
I agree, there is the re-prohibit fear that burdens us law-abiding folk.
They are wonderful rifles, but pricing has gone up considerably since their introduction a decade or so ago, at $699 new. Even at current pricing, still a good platform with that Warsaw Pact Cold War aura to it.
x39 ammo is not as cheap as it used to be.
Also, people do gravitate to the 'newest, latest, greatest product' thought process, and so new products are always coming out to capture market dollars...I'm guilty of succumbing to that also.
I still love my 58/858 and they are long term keepers in my herd.
I'm not sure what numbers the Type81 will be imported in, but I do hope lots, and prices stay good....I will get one, but it is more of Sino-Soviet character to it.
I'd like to get BLC102 but ammo cost is a consideration, but I'll just not shoot it as much as the x39 guns, or the 5.56mm rifles.
Ah,what was the question?....I just love ALL firearms and want to try everything!:runaway:

I remember when I first joined, and there were ads everywhere for $799 858's. (at least, I think I remember that) That's stuck in my head forever, as the real price for one of these awesome rifles.

Huge interest still, imo, just not at 4-digit prices

VZ is the best glutton for digesting the cheap corrosive ammo, I found it had far fewer parts to clean up then some of the other x39 pigs. They are solid rifles, plus you can get parts everywhere.
T81 might be a hit, might be a flop...the last super-hyped PLA rifle (T97) turned out to be a bag of ####. I don't like that parts won't br available for a year or more for them... I have no problem waiting to see how these play out before jumping on the wagon. I'll just have to shoot my $175 SKS until we see if these $1000 SKS's are worth it lol
The NEA/BCL seems to be the best bang right now anyway.

The barrel is too long due to Canadian law.

Looks awkward, never liked it.

I have to agree with that, they have a look of fugly that bugs me. That being said if they were still priced around $700 I'd probably have one but at their current tag it has never crossed my mind to purchase one. I have both the 81 and 102 ordered. To me the 81 is aesthetically pleasing and has a fair price tag. I imagine if they perform decent and only get imported in scarce amounts then the price will rise on them as well.

I think it's a matter of price .... I don't have one and I don't want one for $1,400 (brand new).

Not everyone has the budget for the $1,400 plus rifles.

There are other options under that price for the casual shooter and, if someone didn't care about restricted status, there are American AR 15's for half that price. They're still great rifles .... just maybe not for today's prices. Used VZ 58's need to be competitively priced with other options.

I bought my 858 for $595. Sometime ago..lol it's a great rifle and I love it, but I have been involved in shooting a 81 when I was in the military.. Make no mistake, it is also a great rifle
..

I think the thing with 858's right now is the price point is high enough that you're better off buying an XCR that already takes 10rd pistol mags without spending the extra money to make a 58 do it, and possibly end up with a gun that doesn't like XCR mags like mine.

keep in mind barely used tavors are coming on at the $1600-$1700 level. a vz58 parts gun is $1500 + tax on the other hand. For a 58 to take ar mag and accept a scope you will be buying $100 + worth of adapters or rails etc

I was going to call BS on that, but there is in on EE for 1950 right now. First time I've noticed one for under 2k. I'll never sell my CZ. Wish I bought it sooner, as I paid 1k used but in like new condition.
