have people finally lost interest in the VZ 858?

just to clairfy, I am not trashing the 858, I think they are great rifles, I like the ones I own and have no plans on selling them.

Just wanted to discuss how price gouging has greatly deminished the interest in a great NR rifle.
Its a shame when there was a lot of interest in this rifle, companies were tripping over one another designing kit for this rifle; now not a peep.

as much as I despise the groups you listed, my opinion is the dealers are the ones to blame for the loss of interest in this rifle.
The groups you listed want to get rid of them all, not just the 858s
I realize everything goes up in price, but a 100% price increase virtually overnight was the problem.

But as you noted they also stopped designing kit for them at the same time the price went up.

Both those things happened almost at the same time as a reaction to the uncertain future cast upon the CZ by the frowny faces of the horse cops.....

If the dealers were driving this instead of reacting to the external threat to the CZ they would have been trying to pump up the bling and Kardasianizing options as well as raising prices
rather than just raising prices and dropping the development.

its too Bad that 958 rifle that Wolverime had in the works looked like it had a lot of promise. the flat top/ intergrated rail would have been great.

Agreed.

While my interest in the VZ58s is milsup driven so I am not into non issue variants the development path for the platform was one of the interesting things to follow. Proving a flat/rail would have
been one of the key steps to open that up.

I am interested in the 81 of course as well. :)

If anyone has looked into the Type 81 background the design is a kind of blend of SKS and AK.

My friends says that the 81 is featured in the coming edition of Caliber magazine as well.

It all depends how successful (accurate) BLC102 is going to be.
If it is successful... for extra few hundred dollars you can buy non-restricted AR type of platform.
I don't see why anyone would continue to bother with 858,v58,etc... we may even see them drop back to $1k range.

Cheers,

I am not sure there is a loss of interest in the rifles. There are some 10,000 of them in Canada so a handful showing up in the EE is not indicative of a loss of interest. I have an 858 and a Type 81 on pre-order but I am no illusions. While a cool rifle that is cheap to feed, the Type 81 features a stamped metal receiver and will not be in the same league in terms of quality as the 858. Also, there is a company bringing out a whole new line of made in Canada 858 clones with new made in Canada receivers. They would not be doing that if there was a loss of interest in them.

just curious which company is talking about building a variant?
I missed that announcement, sounds interesting.
Also i was not saying the handful of 858s on the EE was any kind of sign. Just that people are not paying the $1400 -$1600 price tag for them that they seemed to be paying earlier this year and last year.

out of those 10 000 or so rifles i wonder how many people paid under 1K for them?
likely somewhere around 85%

Kodiak Defense/West Rifle.... already on the market.
I think there are 30,000+ VZ58 types in Canada last I heard. There were several different importers of these rifles. Last batch of the old guns Wolverine found/sold was 400 rifles at $1000 each, and they sold out in a couple of hours.
I'm not sure the T81 is going to be worth $1000 either. I'm sure the markup is atrocious... just look at the T97, it was $1100 to the pre-order folks and our dollar was on par, now they are $700 and our dollar is down 30cents. If they can sell them at $700 and still make money with 30cent on the dolar lost, THAT right there is price gouging.

there was a lot of hype over that container Wolverine finnaly had released, I remeber the frustration of people trying to get in the cue to get one lol.

Ok just found the WR762 rifle $1300 plus tax with 1 mag for BB furniture or $1500 for what looks like mis-matched wood.

Funny i have never noticed these, just searched the EE and could not find any of them for sale

Price is going to depend on supply and demand. Increase supply or decrease demand and cost goes down. Decrease supply or increase demand and cost goes up. We have new manufactured 858 clones hitting the market and that will increase supply. Why would anyone pay an inflated EE price for a used 858 when they can get a new one for the same price or less?

Some people like me simply enjoy the Combloc pattern of guns more than the Modern Western world ones.

Same goes for the 102, I'm planning in buying the much less capable and obsolete M1a pattern for possibly $1000 dollars MORE than the 102 simply because I admire and enjoy that platform more.

I liked mine for $700, but at more than double that price they're within striking distance of much nice rifles IMO.

Well if were going purely for looks, nothing says "back the way you came." more than a side by side shotgun and a rocking chair.
