The New Glock Gen 5s

Ppl can trash Glock gen5 all they want, but Glock is clearly listening to their critics yet the critics are beating them up for it. Ambi controls, more conventional rifling, removing the awful finger grooves. Making the slide more holster friendly and loss blocky, better grip texture, modular grip, Ambi mag release, improved magazines, etc. Why is any of that a bad move for Glock?

I agree. The most objective view has to acknowledge that Glock has held its own, and these latest are great improvements.

just try CZ shadow, tanfoglio or Jericho's trigger ;)

I have, I'm just not ignorant enough not to recognize that they're different animals entirely. I own (and have owned) different guns, all for different reasons. Seeing people's blind distaste for something just because they don't want to like it is somewhat mind boggling. Having said that the initial pull on a Glock is as good (or better) than the DA on any of the guns you've listed.

When people say things like "Yeah, but trigger!" or "Yeah, but plastic!" I can't help but shake my head. Truthfully my first thought is "I wonder what they have that's so great?" but shortly after that it wanders over to sadness that people can be so close minded.

I agree that Glock has it's positive sides too ...

On double action?

You can;t compare the SA release to what is effectively a DAO pistol like a striker gun running 5# plus stock triggers.

Everyone I know with a tanfo or CZ burns their first shot on the closest target before the sweetness starts. In the USA, under USPSA rules, the strikers dominate with 3.5# triggers and no 5# first pull rule. There's a reason DA/SA guns lose favor when the rules aren't built to favor them in the canadian games.

A Glock with a 3.5 spring and connector is up there... JP.

I had that in mine and LOVED it, but had to go back to OEM (5.5# +) for IPSC production Canadian rule reasons :(

I'd like to see the playing field levelled and 3.5# first pulls and de-cocked hammer starts. That would definitely change the makeup of the field toward a broader array of guns being used.

I'm not a blind Glock supporter by any stretch, but those are 3 absolutely horrendous examples. The HK USP had the worst trigger of any gun I've ever shot, the PPQ (although great for range use) has been deemed too light for duty use, and the 320... well, really, you're going to talk up the trigger of the 320?

Yeah I couldn't believe how bad my friend's USP trigger was. Worse than a S&W SD9VE
The only gun I'd prefer over the Glock would be the PPQ but I don't dig the 5" barrel or the threaded barrel, so Glock it is!
(Also, I might be in the minority here but I think the Glock looks better than the P320)

I have a USP in .40 with the trigger stop. It is quite nice in SA.
Just shot a HK P2000 in DAO. That was a weird and vague DA pull but once you get used to it, I really enjoyed shooting the gun. Shot a clean Dot Torture with one the first time around.

And I also happen to think the Glock is nicer looking than a P320. But we're getting into comparing Amy Schumer and Rosie O'Donnell! LOL!

Before this thread divulges into some civil war between Glock vs the world, I'll make one valid point regarding who builds the most reliable and long lasting handgun.

Go to a rental range, where various handguns see hundreds of thousands of rounds, and ask to see the maintenance log of each firearm. In my experience, Glock wins every time. So while yes, all mechanical devices are subject to failures, I still prefer the ones that have the least likelihood of failure.

That being said, with the gen 5 release I look forward to some dirt cheap gen 2's and 3's.

I haven't held a gen5 yet, but so far gen 2 has been my favorite Glock. Last week I was at the range and got to try all 4 gens because a bunch of Glock owners were there. Still prefer the gen2 I own.

Those finger grooves just suck for me.

If I buy another striker it's likely to be the 5 inch barreled PPQ. I appreciate the longer sight plain (part of why I bought my 34) but up next is probably a wheel gun or a swap for another P226 :)

I feel the same way.

I personally only notice them when I'm trying to make them feel comfortable at a gun shop counter. When I just pick the gun up, hold it tight and let the lead fly I don't even notice where my fingers are. I do however find them unsightly.
