A few years ago I shot through some 1/2" plate steel with surprising success! Well I got my hands on a chunk of 3/4" steel plate and wanted to try it again. Fired from 55 meters. Impressive stuff! Enjoy.

FMJ 8mm Mauser is a hell of a round for penetration AP projectiles or not.

I highly doubt that is AP ammunition. If that was 1/2" of armor plate, I would be impressed. However is clearly isn't and appears to be mild steel, which has the ballistic protection of a stick of butter by comparison.

Why do you doubt that it was Ap? There is lots of german AP around. The plate may not be to spec, it the Ammo could very well be. I've had tons of it.

I see on the bottom of your post you collect items for the German K43, would you have any interest a Original WWII butt stock Manual?

I had some Israeli AP from the 6 day war back in the late 80's Star of David stamped 48..........battle field pickup along with a mixture of some Arabic + FN as well ? Harold

Just because round has a steel core that doesn't mean it's an AP round.Lots of ammo has it.

Way back I use to shoot mild steel plates of various thicknesses with 7.62x54R-that steel core can go thru A LOT of mild steel.

Armor plate is a very different animal than mild steel. The underlying alloy is differend, and the heat treatment process makes it stronger still. That pice, if made as RHA armor, for example, would not be penetrated by small arms fire of any sort.

If shooting with german wartime 8mm AP, it will go a good job. It was designed to penetrate 11mm of armor. That's SMK. SMK with tracer or PMK is less , I recall around 7mm. And obviously talking about WW2 spec armor steel.

I've put lead core 6.5x55 through 3/4" basic steel plate at 100m.
The neatest was 7.62x54 CZ stuff with the silver tip...the jacket would shed on impact and stick in the steel while the steel torpedo went right through. Looked like the bullet stuck in the steel from the firing line. Recovered some of the cores and they were not even deformed.
