Im considering buying my wife a browning 1911a1 from cabelas, free shipping .I would get it shipped as Im not driving 1200 k to pick it up..One thing the sight says it would add a trigger/case lock for shipping purposes...20-40 bucks,I have never had that before...Has anybody had any problems with buying a restricted from them? I would rather buy from one of the dealers off cgn however the price is higher and no free shipping...and I cant find to many in stock.

That seems to be their policy for shipping guns. Cheaper gun deal on some products but the zinger is the case and lock. There was a post here about this recently.

You have to decide if the cost difference is worth it vs paying for shipping somewhere else.

Cabelas seems to have a pretty strict corporate policy regarding trigger locks. As I recall they won't remove a trigger lock at the counter so you can handle a restricted either. I'm not a huge fan of Cabelas. Given their size and buying power their pricing often isn't that great.

I was thinking the same thing...I like to buy from the "little guy" If its not ridiculous.I am sure its hard enough for them to keep above water...I picked up a gun from a small dealer in ON with issues right out of the box...It was a painless transaction the staff was excellent!....Ive dealt with tradex,bullseye,hical....good bunch when I talked to any of them its like they knew me for yrs.

The reason why they can't remove trigger locks at the counter is because all the ammunition is uncontrolled and available to the customer.

One of the CGN sponsors also has the same policy regarding shipping (buying a lock as part of the sale). Off hand I cannot remember which one it was......

This.
The workaround is just ask the Outfitter to take you to the Gun Library office to remove the trigger lock. They have that discretion.

At Cabela's in Ottawa, all the ammo is locked. They put it into a locked bag for you to take it to the cash. Most retailers don't leave ammo readily available from what I've seen around here.

It's freely available on the shelf in Calgary. No controlled access to the ammunition whatsoever.
